Bike race 9:04:00 [4] 65.0 mi (7.2 mph) +4500ft
ahr:163 shoes: GF Cobia

Burnin! was planning on racing 6hr solo but on Fri night i learned there was only 1 other woman in 12hr solo. so decided to "cat up" to give her some competition. scrounged some extra food from camp and was set to go.

Lap 1, 1:39, just super chill and easy, rode behind Wendy (other 12hr solo racer) and watched her lines and strategy (i.e. where she was walking). some trouble with my saddle bag so had to remove it and put it in my pack. also lost a bottle cage with bottle...goodbye 333 calories, ate a couple extra gels to compensate. took the lead from Wendy late in the lap.

Lap 2, 1:42, rode out behind my teammate Sally (6hr solo racer) who is an excellent tech rider so got to follow her lines before she started cramping badly. gave her some words of encouragement and continued on. fun lap, especially when i found my previously dropped bottle and drank it down. endo'd on a tricky downhill, merely a flesh wound.

Lap 3, 1:44, learned my gap from lap 2 was only 2 min so started getting after myself to ride harder. was a good strategy until i ran into a tree. whoops.

Lap 4, 1:58, not a good lap. i must have gotten behind in calories because i was slow and mental motivation was slipping. also i learned my gap was a more comfortable 15-20 minutes. started cramping in the second half and frantically drank everything i had left.

Lap 5, 1:59, awesome lap! amazing how 16oz coke and 2L nuun can turn your day around. cramping still lingering but not like before. my hands were hurting a lot. easy solution...brake less! came into race HQ totally jazzed and ready for lap #6, but the timers told me Wendy had stopped riding so the win and the buckle were mine after only 9 hours!

i received awesome pit support from my Pfoodman teammates. racers were great on the trail. tons of mtb love out there...these are my people!! besides the extremely minor bottle cage issue i had no mechanicals, making redemption from 2010 complete.

post-race was...crazy. i had to get help climbing the podium. darn american honey.

ahr:126 shoes: Cannondale CAAD8 CX

totally bizarro ride with HH from work. probably was destined to be weird since we were each on cx bikes but with a knobby tire up front and a slick 23mm in back. rode through Venice and Madison (could be sketch after dark but at 6pm very tame). got a little lost and rode through the steel plant. then finally found the MCT and cruised up to SIUE. rode some singletrack there, had us giggling the whole way it was so fun. tires worked out great too, i was surprised how well the road tire did on the dirt. then New Poag Rd to the levee trail (holy headwind!) back to the bridge, through an abandoned army base. just a weird combination of landscapes and terrain. but nice to get a long ride in on a weeknight!

Bike 30:00 [2] 5.0 mi (10.0 mph)
shoes: Peugeot SS

easy ride for errands, and a game of "how much can you fit in/on your 24L pack". i think i PR'd with a 16L sleeping bag, 2# raisins, 1# shred coconut, 1 jar almond butter, 1 box choc espresso beans, 2 campfire sticks, 10 glowsticks, 1 29er tube, and a 14L plastic storage bin 'binered to the outside. plus a lock/wallet/phone.
