Run 5:28:00 [4] 29.2 mi (11:14 / mi) +3900ft 9:58 / mi
ahr:159 shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3 W9

oh yeah.

started w group of 12ish in pretty bad conditions...low 30s, rainy, icy. good vibes all around though and we crushed the first out-n-back, 17 miles (16.5 on the garmin) in a few minutes over 3 hours. easy for some but probably a touch too fast for me. i knew that but rolled anyway because there is no harm in exploding on a fun run. second out-n-back was made with a group of 6 and i got dropped hardcore anytime the trail turned up, which chubb does several times and with authority. but no worries, kept moving forward and the boys waited at a few spots so i had a perfect mix of solo and company. got a little bonky and had to focus a lot on eating from mile 22 onwards. did the last 13 (12.5 on the garmin) in 2:45ish., so major slow-down there. finished pretty tired/sore but happy to have completed what i set out to do, and with some rad people.

definitely felt undertrained towards the end. i would need some more mileage in the legs to make this type of run more physically fun. but, my long run week over christmas made me feel pretty run down, so just need to keep playing with mileage and results. still learning.

finished with a fun time at TJ Wings. our table put down about 125+ wings, several pitchers, and other assorted apps. these are good people.

Peat's Bday Dethride

Bike 6:02:00 [3] 84.0 mi (13.9 mph) +5800ft
ahr:144 shoes: LeMond Tourmalet

"I'm hoping that I emotionally, physically, and maybe even mechanically break down. Better now then in the middle of nowhere Kansas."
--Peat

this is what got me out and into this ride. i wasn't going to do it because the route was hilly and with fast company. but, Peat's right, DK isn't gonna be a cakewalk either.

fortunately, besides being FAF, these dudes are incredibly nice so even though i got dropped a lot, i was able to chase back on on the DHs/flats (4 on SSs) and a couple times they stopped to make sure i made a turn. right on.

felt strong enough that i considered doing the full route (125ish mi) but wimped and did the "short course".

another day full of gratitude for the amazing athletes in my circle. lucky to be able to learn from the best.

so stoked to have Rover II back in business!

super post-ride food and drink and people.

and then on the drive home, Mark called saying the new SegSlayer is almost ready, could i please bring my wheelset by so he can finish build. picking it up on Tuesday. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

the SHITR. what a fun non-race! lined up with MK and we were chasing the chase pack on the opening doubletrack. in the lower singletrack she gradually went ahead and I was content to let her go. then caught up to her and some chase packers in the second section of doubletrack. then took advantage of the speedcross's gnarly grip and passed a lot of people in the upper singletrack. came out of that section by myself but latched onto another guy, colby, on the last doubletrack and we pushed each other home. 1st female.

weather was low 30s and raining, but it didn't really bother me until the last doubletrack which was exposed and windy.

a few sips of LiquidShot and some water and that was it for cals.

this non-race reminded me that it's good to get out in less-than-ideal conditions. i have been coasting with my training lately, not really sure what's gonna come up on the sched next, so not challenging and not growing. reminded me that being crazy is a good thing.

was tracking w strava on my phone but it died and did you know? if your phone dies it does NOT save a partial strava file. you get nothing.

singletrack is FUN. love the feeling of ripping through it. and the darkness makes it feel faster. badass.

thanks to HatePavement and ROCK Racing for organizing. let's do it again!

back home. as i was climbing the hill out of the jobsite a guy started talking to me. i was forced by traffic to stop and wait at the intersection so he caught up to me and was talking about how much he liked my bike etc etc. red alarms are going off internally since the area around the jobsite isn't that great, and you know, the whole single girl thing. finally, a break in the traffic and i rode off. phew! i don't think he was up to no good, but he sure had me worried for a few seconds.
