ride w Erl and Andrei from Jay Cooke SP. didn’t really have a plan but took off down Munger (paved) trail. about the time we felt like turning around we checked the map and realized we could connect to Skyline Dr back to the car. however, we got to the short connector bikewhack and it looked super steep and overgrown. however conveniently there was another gravel trail headed back so we took that (Magney-Snively). it went they Ely’s Peak railroad tunnel so we stopped there and hiked up to the peak, cloudy but neat. then continued to ride back to the car. it’s just so cool to have not one but two awesome connector trail options in the area.

Paddle 1:58:36 [3] 5.88 mi (3.0 mph)

paddle in St. Louis River estuary with Erl and our guide Bjorn of Day Tripper Duluth. we originally had booked a paddle on Lake Superior at Split Rock SP but there was a small craft advisory forecast so we moved the paddle to the estuary. i was bummed about this but the estuary turned out to be very enjoyable. we each got a Tsunami 14. our guide was a super cool dude, local college student, former junior-road-bike-racer turned collegiate XC ski athlete. it was less of a guided trip and more of a social paddle exploration, which is what we were looking for. tons of eagles and sturgeon jumping. great morning.

walk at Faust (never have explored that wee trail) w Erl n Tess between rainstorms. got caught in the rain at the end. but the good news is Erl was able to sell THREE used bikes since Saturday. we used NextDoor, Facebook (STL area bike group), and Craigslist and had one buyer from each. if anyone has used bikes in their garage, now is a great time to sell. not that you’ll get a ton of money, but people are motivated the buy since bike shops are basically out of entry level bikes.

Bike 1:14:42 [3] 8.67 mi (7.0 mph) +630ft
shoes: Niner RKT RDO

two laps of CCL, counter-clockwise, with Erl.

the second lap i was pondering how strava misses some of the most important things about a bike ride or run.
--did you stop to let a kid watch a spider on the trail?
--did you slow down to allow a family to pass?
--did your smile grow throughout the ride?
--did you spot a baby fawn in the woods?
--did you say Happy Father's Day to the dads on the trail with their families?

not that I generally use strava as a judgement of my workout quality, i don't, but i really wish there were check boxes for some of these types of things. well i guess that's what Attackpoint is for :) :)
