9hr Beulah Challenge. a bit of a train wreck for me but that’s not saying much since i have minimal tolerance for train wrecks. i ended the day without my pack, in a new pair of socks/shoes (Fellraisers after starting in Speedcrosses) and not a lot of speed. and i had to change headlight batteries not once but TWICE due to my own mistakes. and i told Erl i wouldnt mind quitting after lap 4.

but the thing that stuck w me is if we are on a 40mi trek at GZ, there is no option to quit. i would have to sort things out then, so why not practice it now. it was a bit of balance due to both of us starting the race sick but i think we each got a great training day. and another reminder for me to take each lap one at a time. it’s a lesson i can’t learn enough.

we did have the option to go out on an 8th lap but i called it due to diminishing returns.

the trails were in overall decent shape. some really tough sections of frozen hoof prints that challenged our ankles and were generally annoying. some mud that firmed up overnight and was beaten into a nice smooth track by all the runners. and some rocky bits that were smooth sailing.
