Meet 33 Race 61
Possum Trot at Knob Noster

Nice day, beautiful park. I definitely would like to race here again. Warmer than the previous year and only a bit damp. Made an ill-fated choice of not wearing spikes. Note to self, crisp fall leaves are slippery in studs. I tripped on the way to control 1 and stumbled a couple more times before control 3, slowing on the hills because I was unsure of the footing. My big oops was creek hopping on the way to control 5. The valley was some of the greener terrain, so I bounced from one side of the creek to the other and back. After a bit of this, I decided that I was going to just get wet. The water looked deep enough that I would get a good soaker but no more. Stepping in, my foot found a sheet of ice, I collapsed given the skittering foot and unexpected stride, wacking my knee on a rock or the ice. The swim after this was just a minor insult. The knee whack left me nauseous, just one of those shock/funny bone types of problems but it made me sit for 3 minutes on a log. The next few controls were limpy but the course generally improved from here.

Chose to drop 21. It seems like Christina was faster dropping 19. The difference in distance was very small, so I think it was more the vegetation near 19 versus the open spur that lead to 21.

Lost time getting to the go control. The forest leading to it was junky and I wasn't sure which reentrant was going to be the correct one. I hesitated a bunch and was then overrun by Ian, who apparently took a more direct line through the green.

A nice day and I felt more competent than normal and happy at the end.

Meet 33 Race 60

Pre possum sprint. Pretty nice running and pretty forest with some zones of small saplings and grass to pick our way through. No really large errors, just lost time in hesitations and some swoopier routes. Second after the speedy Dane.

Cold (18 F) and hard on my lungs with the sudden change in weather. But, I did get the trail almost to myself.

And, the liquid insulation seems to have repaired my headlamp wires so I didn't eat the ditch this time.

Running on a treadmill while reviewing a textbook. Pace was set by my comfort level for not loosing track of what I was doing and getting pitched off the end.
