Badger/CAOC Greenbush meet Day 2 7.4 k Red Blue
Meet 28 Race 53

Started in pouring rain which usually means an unhappy race day. Bad race but still happy, possibly a first. Solidly raining through the first 6-7 controls. Today was less ridgey and more depression-filled. Most errors involved compass to a "parallel-error" type depression. Just S of the control at 6, skirted 8 to come back to (small lost time), same on 10 (also small). Big misses were on 11, where I think being tired was weighing in so I sorted my way around the hill 150m SW, 13 (instead of passing between the two huge depressions by the field, I ended up going N of them, effectively combining them so I was confused by this), small miss on 14. I apparently ran just W of 15 and likely within sight of the control only to do two loops to find it. Only complaint was the mapping of 16, which was a depression but not in a discernable reentrant. This led to a complete bail-to-the-trail fix. 17 got me going again but for 18, I made it to the ridge in front of the control, looking down at it but not seeing it, I wandered stupefied until I lucked onto it. My line to 19 was then 25 degrees too far N so I missed but then made many laps passing to the E and N of it several times before getting to a very distinct reentrant S of the control. Anyone in the woods could have enjoyed me talking through every feature I saw as I walked slowly and (ignoring the previous 17 minutes) competently straight to the bag. Small bobble to 24 coupled with a poor route and back to the car.

Thanks to Anthony and Charlie for setting really great courses on certainly one of the best maps in the US.

Legs are no more beat up than road running, so I will claim this was a healing affair. Probably will need to regrow a big right toenail from kicking a log on day one as it is turning black (same toe as the Cinci meet) and managed to jam the inside of my left knee into a log on Day 2. This will heal in a day or two. I am already to find some more adventure!
