Orienteering 13:30:00 [3] *** 19.75 mi (41:01 / mi) +900m 35:56 / mi
11c shoes: Inov 340 Pair #2

A day to test out gear, nav, and feet on our own private adventure with thanks to the generous flyingsquirrel. Visited Cave Run Lake in KY with Dave. This was a steep and green but otherwise beautiful park with some weird sinks, arches and rockhouses and lot of poison ivy and cliffs. Navigation was pretty good, a few more challenging legs went well and a couple of bobbles could easily be blamed on the USDA's map. It was pretty shocking to find that a stack of 20-50 foot cliffs does not necessarily show up on a map with 20 ft contours. It was mostly shocking because it appeared to be the case that half of the hilltops were cliffs and it was not possible to guess which ones would be easily passable. This certainly dampened the enthusiasm for night-o.

While I survived this amount of time in Inov8s with better insoles and no ankle braces, I definitely need to find an orienteering/sturdy off-trail shoe that will work for wider feet and that can accept all of the supporting junk that gets wrapped around my feet. My ankles certainly would have turned running. Recovered well on Sunday and my fasciitis bizarrely seems to be on the mend.

Road running 58:10 [3] 7.02 mi (8:17 / mi) +25m 8:12 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Wide 2

A sluggish start with a tight stride. After 2.5 miles, the running improved, a light rain started that was quite refreshing, and the remainder was decent.
