Event: QOC Jug Bay

12 PM

Orienteering race (Beer Chase) 1:19:19 [3] 9.3 km (8:32 / km)
shoes: Falcons 2018

It was cool, very rainy day. I spent an 2 hours before the start standing the rain helping to set up everything. This promised to be the 2nd Jug Bay Beer Chase where the marshes actually had water in them. The problem is there was water everywhere so the marshes were still hard to see.
I was slow on the beer drink this year. Several people beat me, including the usual Dan Quinn. I was however, the first one to start running. The fast people passed my quite quickly running down the road. They took the field, I cut over to the trail to avoid the first of the stream crossing. The lead pack overshot a bit so I was the first one to the control with Ken Walker right behind me. He quickly passed me. I went left to #2 to avoid green but was a little to far left. The leaders got there ahead of me. Then they disappeared never to be seen again (at least by me). I don't know where everyone went. I ran the next few controls by myself. I made a boo-boo on #5 and people (Vido and Diana) caught up to me. I passed them back on the way to 6. At the exchange I had no idea where I was place wise but Dan Quinn was right behind me. Dan passed on the way to the next control but we stayed together along with Joshua Sanchez the rest of the loop. Leaving the 2nd control I started off the total wrong direction and Dan followed me. I suggested he should look at his map which he then started doing. I caught back up to Joshua at 3. Joshua runs to fast for me and was leaving me behind on the trails. I punched #6 behind Joshua and Dan but was the first to leave the control. I ran down the hill right into the marsh where I got stuck. I was sunk deep enought that I couldn't move either leg to get out. I had to call for help from Dan/Joshua who fortunately helped pull me out. I figure they lost at least minute doing that. Thank you Dan & Joshua. After that I was so tired and they ran away from me. Last loop was uneventful except I saw Jon Torrence coming into a control from the wrong direction. He out ran me to the finish. All in All a good run in the pouring rain, dark woods.

walk (road with Darcy) 1:09:34 [1] 3.66 mi (19:00 / mi)

Walk with Darcy. It was hot and humid. The sun came out which made it worse.
The highlight of the walk was when a bird pooped on Darcy's head. We were a mile from home so there wasn't anything to be done but continue to walk home. We both thought it was funny but I was the only one really laughing.

Run (road) 38:36 [3] 4.49 mi (8:36 / mi)
shoes: Run: Asics Gel Yayano 24

It was still hot and humid. I was fine for the first 1/2 mile then I just got hot. I wasn't going fast because it was just to hot to run. I was totally drenched by the end of my run (and it was all sweat).

It was to hot to run but I need to get out and do some. There was a storm coming but I went for a run anyway. I made it most of the way through my run until the storm opened up. The rain felt good.

Soccer (outdoor) 1:20:00 [4]
shoes: Soccer outdoor Nike t60 2012

It was the first playoff game. Unfortunately was also the day after a holiday and a lot of my team was on vacation. We played the whole game with 9 people instead of 11. In this Coed league, you have to have 4 women on the field. We had 5 women and 4 men. Our really good goalie was also one of the ones that didn't show. A women volunteered to be in goal but she had never played before. We gave up several stupid goals (including one we scored against ourselves. All in all we gave a good showing. We lost 6-2. By the end of the game, it was all I could do just to stand upright. I was so tired.
