Orienteering race (mass start sprint motala) 7:50 [3] 0.91 mi (8:36 / mi)
shoes: O: falcons 2011

There was a mass start. The idea was to not be distracted by all the other runners. It was a great ide and lots of fun except on detail: the maps were printed without yellow. The green veg was blue (same as water): Try looking for a pond which is really a bushy area or finding a stream running through the green. The open area was the color of the parking lot.
Needless to say, I screwed up the first control and ran to another one first. I didn't know it until they told me at download. Still fun but very fustrating. I thought it was just my map but it was all of them.

Orienteering (mass start sprint motala2) 9:30 [2] 0.92 mi (10:19 / mi)
shoes: O: falcons 2011

I talked with the meet organizer and found all the maps are bad which is bad as I don't want to train on a wrong color map. They did find one batch printed before they ran out of yellow ink so I got that for the next event. I think The course was printed with symbol set (lines to thin). Nonetheless, I ran by the first control (litterally, I saw it and ran by it without punching thinking I was going to #2. When I got to 2 I realized by mistake and didn't want to go back to number one so just jogged the course.

Orienteering (mass start sprint motala2) 6:46 [4] 0.86 mi (7:52 / mi)
shoes: O: falcons 2011

I didn't want to run with a bad color map, so for the next mass start I ran without a map in order to get more training in. I ran the same course I did the first time (including running to the wrong first control). MSP/DNF #3

Orienteering warm up/down 8:48 [2] 0.88 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: O: falcons 2011

Jogged the course one more time as a warm down.

Orienteering (shadowing Kathleen) 25:02 [3] 1.73 mi (14:28 / mi)
shoes: O: falcons 2011

Kathleen Lennon wanted to do a Sprint (she was carpooling with me) so I decided to shadow her. She did well until she got tired then made a few mistakes. Lots of good things we can work on to improve her orienteering.
