Ran It Granite Sprint at the QOC meet west of Baltimore.

Didn't want to use up too much energy before the weekend races, but the start was downhill, so I was off pretty quickly. I was distracted by a cadet and missed C3 to the left, climbing too high before realizing my error. I also blew C4 by running to the cliffs to the right of the line and taking too long to recover. Most of the rest was pretty clean, but I didn't do a good job of keeping my legs moving.

I caught Chelsea(!) on the way to C3, then caught Zach leaving C7. Nate started before me because he was supposed to jog thru the course, since he needs big scores on the A-meet courses this weekend. His jogging turned out to be 15:14. My lost time may have accounted for a little more than half of our time difference; the rest is that his jogging is faster than my tempo effort.

It turns out the Sprint Relay tomorrow is 3-person, not 2-person as I initially thought, so we have to figure out who to vote off the island. Zach because there is no Yellow? Chelsea because she's a nube? Nate since he has to go slow? Me since the old guy is obviously the odd one out?

Running warm up/down 12:00 [2] 1.33 mi (9:00 / mi)

Map Hike 10:00 [1] 2.5 km (4:00 / km) +100m 3:20 / km

Walked around the model course with the family - minus Luke, of course, since he is in Buffalo playing hockey. Other than that, it was the whole family, as Chris joined us, but she refused to take one of our maps.

We were bamboozled by Zach.

Note
slept:5.75 (rest day)

Couldn't sneak out at lunchtime, but I planned on running during the track scrimmage at Wayne, but that ended up being canceled, so I just worked on getting out of town, instead of doing a short run in the rain.

Note
rhr:42 slept:5.0 (rest day)

Not an intentional rest day, but I went out to lunch with my QC posse, and went from work to a brief orienteering training session at Thomas. Finally, being a masochist, I decided to watch the Sabres, rather than sneaking out for a run before dinner.

Running 28:00 [2] 3.61 mi (7:45 / mi)
slept:8.25 weight:163.5lbs

Did a little bit of running during track practice, but was interrupted and then I had to be the timer, instead of doing a workout. After practice, I checked on Luke at the ice rink and then ran from there to the bike path to Gravel and back.

Map Run 43:00 [2] 4.78 mi (9:00 / mi)
slept:8.25

Training with the Webster Orienteering Team at Webster Park.

Nate and I each took a group out on the map. They followed along on the map as we ran, and we stopped and asked where they were. Then we let them take turns leading to spots on the map.

I did some refresher notes before we ran. Afterward, we had them do some armchair orienteering, first with a Yellow map, then with the Blue course from last year's Team Trials.
