There was some whining about our trail from Saturday (although SWH had no troubles with it today), so I reran it today and added some orange tape at a few key checks and a couple of other helpers. In hindsight, there was one "overly" tricky spot when we brought them out to the road to the campgrounds and they needed to go straight from the check, which was not obvious, or circle around to the right to find the hidden start of the trail thru that section.

Strength 1:00 [1]

10 push-ups; didn't want to overdo it on day 1!

Nate and I drove over to BFLO for the Sol-O event at Emery Park. Nate ended up with a MSP and several minutes behind me; however, it wasn't really a fair course - not just because I've done many map hikes there over the years - as there were some misplaced controls, and C2 was a pretty ridiculous location: "somewhere in the thicket". I didn't lose too much time going 270 degrees around before busting in and happening upon the very low flag, but Nate spent more time there. I'm fairly certain C4 was in the wrong location - everything lined up for a boulder that I found immediately, but no flag. I then wandered one way, then the other and found the flag next to a piece of stone. C7 was definitely in the wrong location as the X on the map was most certainly marking the pile of logs at the edge of the clearing or, less likely, some old stone grill or something behind it. The flag was at some other junk, much closer to the stream, and Nate never found it. I found it only after resigning to having Nate catch up to me and confirm that it should have been at the logs before moving on. C8 was lying on the ground in a fairly random location, but it was right on my path to the mapped knoll, so I lost no time, but Nate took a wider approach and didn't see it initially.

A nice visit with Walt and Patty afterwards, then a quick stop at Brigid's house, where the sun was shining uninterrupted.

Did some jog/walk at Lincoln Park. Planned on 4 min on / 2 min off and more or less kept that ratio.

Decided to jump on the track today to see where I stand, and the results were not good, but not terrible. I did 6x400 with 400 after each (100m walk, 250m jog, 50m walk).
2:01, 1:55, 1:54, 1:52, 1:51, 1:53
The watch wasn't tight enough for the first 4 intervals, so the HR recorded too low.

Golfing 15:00 [3]

Ended my streak of 6 days of some sort of running, but got to play golf. 48 this week, with 2 3-putt bogeys and a double-bogey off my best drive where I was within 100 yards of the pin but shanked badly right (very uncharacteristic from that distance) behind trees and had to chip back into play. Left several other strokes out there as well.

Went to Durand Eastman with Nate and we knocked off 20 of the eastern permanent course controls in the heat. Quite clean on the navigation, as expected, given how slow we were moving with the real-feel in the 90s at the start (better than over 100 at the house). Finished up and took a cold one down to the Lake Ontario shore.

Since I still haven't found my bike pump, I got the small compressor out of the trunk of the car and tried to use it to pump up the tires; however, it had picked up some corrosion. I was able to clean the contacts for the car lighter socket to get the power to flow, but the lever to close the seal was also corroded and I couldn't get it to move. So, biking was out.

Instead, I took my phone with the Webster Park permanent course to the Whiting Road lot, and knocked off most of the course. I was so excited to check a trail that I had not been on before, that I forgot about one control in the northwest, then really struggled with finding the pit with #20. Another beautiful evening to be out, and I saw almost nobody - just a guy with his dog over on a private trail early, then about a half-dozen teens 2/3 thru, and some campers - all but one who were at the 4 lots closest to the back campground trail, so I had to go around.

OTD set a ghost trail at Powder Mills Park yesterday, so Nate and I took advantage of the opportunity to get out on a beautiful afternoon. Fairly short trail, but included plenty of climb and the cumulative effect of the last few days has added up. VM finished a bit after we did, then SWH showed up to do the trail with a friend.

Orienteering 1:25:48 intensity: (11:45 @1) + (26:03 @2) + (23:23 @3) + (16:50 @4) + (7:47 @5) 4.34 mi (19:46 / mi) +241m 16:52 / mi
ahr:132 max:174 weight:171lbs

Nate and I drove down to do the Sol-O at Harriet Hollister. Nate gave me a several minute head start, and didn't catch me (probably due to his error on 5), but did beat me. Walt and Patty got there ahead of us and I passed them on the way down the hill to C6.

The mapper left many good features off the map, such as the rockpile that I saw leaving the trail to C1, the boulder I saw going up to C2 (or 3?), and the fairly large flat ruin right on the line from C3 to C4.

But I was worse than the mapper, leaving several minutes on the course, with the most frustrating being the short legs where I tried to run and use the contours instead of the compass.

Another FCH3 hash trail with Nate down around the canal. Plenty of marks this time, so we got around quite quickly.

ahr:136 max:161 weight:172lbs

6 min jog / 1 min walk at Ellison Wetlands - went out to Old Browncroft on the low road and came back on the high road. Had to walk part of a couple of steep hills in the last 8 minutes or so, as I was getting worn out. Did walk righ past a snake - noticed it when it slithered on some dry leaves next to the trail.

No workout today, but I did get in over 10,000 steps walking around EA as part of Walt's birthday celebration.

Another day of pandemic, another trail! FRB set the CBH3 trail for this month, and it was well done. Nate joined me for the trip through a little bit of everything.

Nate and I drove over to Chestnut Ridge to do their Sol-O event. He gave me too much of a head start so he never caught me. We were able to hang out with Walt and Patty for a while after finishing, and the sun came out for most of that, making for a very nice day!

Running 37:35 intensity: (8:04 @1) + (5:01 @2) + (5:32 @3) + (9:24 @4) + (9:34 @5) 3.11 mi (12:05 / mi) +1m 12:04 / mi
ahr:134 max:164 weight:173lbs

Since it was raining a bit, I didn't want to walk, but since I ran an O course yesterday and I want to run at Chestnut Ridge tomorrow, I settled on basically 2 min slow jog, 2 min moderate jog, 3 min walk cycles. Had to add on a bit because the original loop would have been about 2.66.
