4 PM

Cycling (home from college) 32:00 [2] 11.4 km (2:48 / km)

6 PM

Orienteering race (bristol uni sprint race) 32:19 [4] **** 6.79 km (4:46 / km) +100m 4:26 / km
spiked:22/27c shoes: Inov8 Terrafly 303

new map Bristol university , really not what i was expecting , it was a really brilliant race , and i dare say the most technical urban i have done before , some bits of the race like around #16 i found it easier to understand the barbican , started ok , a few short sprint legs , then into some student accomidation block which was pretty fiddly , caught tim at 5 , was slow but safe round 6 and 7 , which was really complicated , then cruised round the running legs , aimed to not let tim overtake me , and i succeeded , overshot 9 slightly , then it got back into the hard stuff , slowed down a lot for 13 and 14 , and 15 , then dropped a minute on 16 because it was really complicated , got a bit confused by the line cutting which led to me running into a dead end path , then i just stopped for 15 secs to try and work out how to get to it , then it went into Bristol grammar school which had quite a few fiddly walls , then down to the memorial buildings , think i took the best route to 23 , 24 was fiddly , then lost another 1 min on 25 where i didn't realise there was a gate , and it turned out it was open but closed at the other end , and i was stood in a primary school confused for 30 seconds , missed the best route to 26 , and i ran on the road , then ok to the finish.

a really good event put on and mapped by Duncan at last minute , one of if not the best sprint map i have run on , i will certainly be using this area for training , ............ of course however not half as good as frenchay will be ;-)

Orienteering race (bko regional swinley east) 53:52 [4] *** 10.33 km (5:13 / km) +105m 4:58 / km
spiked:20/23c shoes: Inov8 X talon 212 (old)

BKO regional event at swinley east forest , typical fast south east London forest , ran the brown course , no control descriptions as i was expecting them in the start lanes but it turned out you had to get them from the start.

ok start hit 1,2,3,4,5 without a problem , small route mistake on 6 and it was in the wrong place by 30m but only around +45 secs lost , and the control wasn't taken out ( !!!!??? ) , drifted off a bit on 7 , missed the control as it was pretty hidden in the bush on 8 +50 secs , kept it reasonably clean to the finish , left heel was a bit sore throughout , and it was sore on Tuesday and Wednesday , will keep an eye on it.

4th behind ben Stevens who won in 51 mins , 3 seconds off third , and less than a minute behind geoff :-) , pretty pleased considering i wasn't really feeling very up to it beforehand

Cycling home from a party , left my bike at franks , so I rode from there , felt so weird cycling along the dual carriageway with no cars atall And not having to stop for traffic lights because nothing was coming each way :-) was a bit worried about cycling through barton hill/Easton at this time but I didn't see a soul throughout . Quite warm too :-)

Warm up/ Warm down warm up/down (warm up/down) 12:26 [2] 1.06 km (11:44 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X talon 212 (old)

jogging from home to start and from finish to home , then stretching back at home

Orienteering (frenchay control checking) 48:32 [3] ***** 10.5 km (4:37 / km) +100m 4:25 / km
ahr:156 max:174 spiked:30/30c shoes: Inov8 X talon 212 (old)

cruised round the long course for the most anticipated event of the year , frenchay urban race , also tried out my new o shoes i got at the britiiiiiissh , a bit longer than i was expecting seeing as it was only 5.8km straight line , but there is a lot of route choice , round the river it was quite slow going with the mud , and there are plenty of changes in terrain , from old ww2 hospital buildings , to modern hospital , to agricultural land , to the 1980's village , to the victorian village , to the forst by the river and the bradley stoke style new housing to the east of the map. i should hope that this is in peoples diaries as opposed to brown clee !!! paul is the first to let me down.
