Note

this is my story and I am sticking to it.
Wyoming is a magical place for awesome orienteering. The terrain and maps are superb. Swampfox has this whole area mapped so well and such excellent courses.
The weather was perfect for each 6 days course with no real heat waves or major storms during the event.

My buds and I started to camp at famous Yellow Pines when the mosquitos took over and Jim had already went to town to replace his 10X10 shelter that had blown down earlier. Even I heard l the mosquitos were much better and even our last morning was pleasant. But I had reserved 5 nights in my vehicle while there were 10 mosquitos flying inside. I always said that I enjoyed camping and preferred it, but could always afford a room. I picked the closest place out of town. Nice, with showers, ice, nice comfortable beds and breakfast.
I think if there are A meets I will def get a room again.

Took an earlier start to start driving yesterday and made 800 miles and made it home today. Rick was supposed to be starting 4 min after me and I told him that based on the last two days we would finish at the exact same time. However I the course to my self which I like.
Sciatic nerve was acting up and after 5 days I thought maybe the legs were a bit tired.
So I was pleasantly surprised that I took second on the green course. Made driving and the trip seem that much sweeter especially since I had a sick visiting dog and issues with my neighbor of his dumping of his 4th of July pig carcass next to my property.
My wife found a statue of not leaving out a carcass and stuck it in my retired Kenosha sheriff face and he was an ass, but still did the right thing and buried it. Whew, the dog is felling better and a good thing, I don't think Katie got into it much. Wife super mad at me...
Will see if I have any high altitude training by running a 5k this Thursday.

Orienteering Meet race 53:44 [5] *** 5.8 km (9:16 / km)
spiked:8/10c shoes: Icebug green #5

Diamond Bay and final day of the 2016 Rocky Mountain O' Festival.

Another fantastic course set. More technical and less open running.
Splits show I lost time on two controls but had the best split on two controls.. I went out of my way to avoid the big rock piles and that cost time on a few controls also.

Had to book out to start driving and thought that others would have faster times, so when I saw that I took second and improving every meet, this made the long drive much easier.

Thanks to the RMOC crew for another fantastic 6 days of top quality racing with friends.

Day 2 of the 3 day of A meets.
Remarkable Flats is the map.
Ended up in 3rd in green and m-60
The first control was technical getting through lots of boulders, but the control was in a big reentrant. 2 I drifted off to the east trying to avoid more rocks and boulders. Luckily there was a fence backstop. Three was great and then it was fast running from rock pile to rock pile to the end.
Really fun fast course.

Day 1 of A meets at Twin Boulders map.
1:10000 scale so that threw me off at the first control. 2 was a long leg and I opted for the cow trail along a fence. Seemed to be a faster route compared to straight at it. Some wide open and fast orienteering . Straight line 6.8 k
Look like I ended up 5th on green and 3rd in m-60

Day 3, was doing fairly well till my parallel error on 12, that took my steam away and screwed up 13 too.
Long day, hilly and long. 7.7 k straight line. The mosquitos were pretty bad today too.

Day 2 One Cowgirl Relay.
5 maps with loops from .5k to 2.9k. 4 maps motala style and then the final.
I really screwed up the first control that was 150 meters. Lost at least 5 minutes trying to get it right.
After that just settled down and ran ok. Straight line was 7 k
Ended up 21st

Day 1 of the Daze. Moose Outlet, mass start.
Started out slow but was feeling pretty good for the rest of the race. Lots of following so not much individual navagation.

Ran behind Pete from Minn, Rick B and Troy B, ahead of all of them at one point, but they caught up and passed at some point. A tough M -60 guy from overseas is here.
