Orienteering Meet race 1:05:57 [5] *** 6.3 km (10:28 / km) +165m 9:15 / km
spiked:11/15c

Hickory run,PA Long course First control and here is Glen T...where did he come from??? He says I just gained 4 min. on him...so it was a bit back and forth untill he left me at the 9th control..Some tough nav through the rodie plants/trees????Than the long leg to 12...Poor route choice by me as I planned to go fairly straight trying to hit the white areas with lots of rocks and I kept heading up hill to avoid the green. Well the white areas did not seems so distinct either and i should of hit the trail and gone way around..of course in the middle of green its a bit late to do that. So I was so slow that my brain could not judge where in the green I actually was, so i maintained my bearing and was pretty much right on. Just slow and GT gained back that time on me.
Nice day for being in the woods about 35 degrees.
On was out of the park i saw a little black bear crossing the road...and on to the town of JIM THROPE. I visited his memorial and was totally impresssed about his history...He WAS the Greatest Athlete ever in the US.... enough said.

Event: Hickory Run

10 AM

Orienteering Meet race 14:42 [5] *** 2.0 km (7:21 / km) +50m 6:32 / km
spiked:9/12c

Sprint @ Hickory Run. Nice course through a maze of the campground. Had a little bobble going to 4 as there were dirt roads. paved roads and the main paved roads. Time lost in seconds count in a sprint.

Anyway my buddy had sent up a Penn State tent selling great wool hats on a cold day. He set up a grill and made hot cooco, hot dogs and brats. he would of given away a brat to anyone buying a hat he was selling for his daughter who started this brand. It was a blast!! Of course I had to come up with the saying that""they are so tight that you can't even sell a wool hat to an orienteer on a cold day"
1 PM

Orienteering Meet race 35:08 [5] *** 3.4 km (10:20 / km) +110m 8:54 / km
spiked:11/14c

SHADES OF DEATH map of Hickory Run PA....Nice course in a small section of white woods on a map with tons of green. First control involved a long trail run to the frist control.I kinda liked that, nice warmup to the meet. Lots of short controls. i id not read the map well to 5 and was to the east by 50 meters....I should of used a better ap of the boulders to the west and than up to the control. Nicer little bouncing around through the map using the road on a couple of legs near the end.
Awesome time and my buddy had hot coco and brats and a dog to eat. It was cold so we packed up and headed to the cabin to watch the Penn State football game.

5:30 pm run at Petrfrying Springs with kenosha running club aka Mark. I was ready today/tonight with my O shoes and headlamp. Great single track for running. We did finish in the dark..along the Pike River.....oooh the trail seems long in the dark and almost hard to find way out since I have never run there in the dark....next week after daylight time changes it will be a total headlamp run.
