orienteering 50:13 [1]

Yeah, yellow was a good choice for me today, my body was just done with being out in the woods. Had really bad leg cramps and round ligament pains coming out of #1, so I sat down for a few minutes and rested, and after that it wasn't so bad, as long as I didn't try to run at all. Still, it looked like an awesome map, and I'd love to come back and run on this map again (although maybe just on the 1:10000 version- the 1:15000 looked very painful).

Woo, middle races! Felt like I had a good process through the first half of the course, and was moving well(ish). Bobbled #8 a bit, things just didn't feel like they were lining up quite right in the marsh. After that, felt like I was having some issues with scale, things just felt a little off, but it was probably just because I really wanted to be able to run faster. Baby wasn't exactly helping, either, as every time I would start to jog, baby would start kicking and rolling exuberantly, which mostly just made me feel queasy and off-balance.

Other side of the Harriman training map this morning, focusing on controls that were either set in a very vague area, or areas with a lot of point features, requiring good simplification. As expected, the controls set in vague areas gave me more trouble, so I need to continue to focus on good technique and keeping my head up with a clear plan, as opposed to just blundering around waiting for things to make sense. Being forced to take it slow is probably good for the time being, I just need to work on my habit patterns and visualization throughout the winter so that I'll have a better foundation once I can run again.

Training on the course TGIF set out. Did the corridor-o, which went well, then slogged through the contours-only section, which was a lot tougher. Really tired and not handling the heat very well today, either.

Forest sprint relay with Joe. The beauty of not being able to run is that I was able to read the map and not over-run the first few controls, even on a 1:5000. Unfortunately, I got ahead of myself on #6, and realized that the only thing worse than over-running a control is over-walking it, so that was a bit embarrassing. Fun to get a bit of relay training in, though!

orienteering 1:06:29 [3]

Didn't sleep as well last night, and was feeling fairly achy and tired at the start. Felt a little less focused today, which probably accounted for bobbles and sub-optimal route choice to 4,5,6, and 7. Too low on 4, stopped short on 5, poor compass work/ failed to select a good attackpoint to 6, and allowed myself to become distracted by the other runners to 7.
