Granite Hills Park - course 3 (M55)
Great bush sprint with phi and butterfly loops on a hillside with views towards the Melbourne skyline. Off in pairs, me with Steve Cooper from SA, a good pairing given how close we'd been the day beforehand. A bit wayward to 1 as was dragged to the left by one of the elites. Caught by Shano, my minute man, who had the same loops as me. Lost him at 9 (was also 5) when I went to the L and hit the road and ended up relocating of 4 (what was I doing?) Not too bad through the butterflies except for 18 which I overshot. A cruel uphill finish.

Orienteering warm up/down 5:07 [2] 0.94 km (5:27 / km) +11m 5:10 / km
ahr:153 max:166 shoes: Brooks GTS18-1

Orienteering race 16:14 [3] 2.71 km (5:59 / km)
ahr:158 max:178 (sick) shoes: Brooks GTS18-1

La Trobe University - course 3 (M50)
A far more straightforward course than the previous afternoon (the NOL relay was very complex). Only significant time loss was at 16, maybe the easist control on the course, where I had the control was on the building behind. Particularly annoying as I had been watching the elite who had the same finishing loop for an hour before I went out.

Orienteering race (MSW1) 15:48 [3] 2.72 km (5:48 / km) +14m 5:39 / km

Overnewton College - course 3 (M50)
Hesitated in the way to 2 as was trying to get my head around the hexagonal building in the middle of the campus. Okay after that but probably lost some time as I always went the same way the large, irregular shaped building. We were spared the mud the longer courses went through. Didn't push myself and pleased to come second.

Orienteering race (MSW2) 20:49 [3] 2.81 km (7:24 / km)
ahr:159 max:174 (sick) shoes: Brooks GTS18-1

Deakin University - course 3 (M50)
No problems with the first 3. Couldn't work out the multi-level route to 4, despite an attempted description in the course notes, so went the longer but safer way to the south. Completely lost it coming out of 5 as I started to navigate to 9 and ended up a 2! Found the artificial barriers around 7 and 8 and bit too contrived. Next screw up was with 10 as I couldn't work out how to get into the covered walkway as I was faced with a building running in from the car park. I even tried going up the stairs before seeing someone coming out of the door to the corridor was the control was - not happy.

Note
(sick)

Not getting any better, not getting any worse, just plain frustrating. Not sure I'll be up for much sprinting this weekend.
