(injured) shoes: Inov8 x-talon 212 original (2)

Gumble Pinnacles - Hard 4 (M50)
Not sure how I finished third given how slowly I was moving and the number of mistakes I made. Bottled it on the way to 1 and used the fence as a handrail to the firebreak. Like many people made a complete hash of 3 not making any sense of the creeks and put off by the thick vegetation. Minor times loses on 6 (too low) & 7 (wrong boulder despite knowing it). Pleased to keep it together on the long leg to 9. Disappointed to lose time on 10 where I started to look in the first gully I crossed without realising there was a second. A great, taxing course let down to a small degree by the map not reflecting the regrowth, glad to have finished in a 'reasonable' time.

More control checking at Falnash on the way back from Orange to save me another trip up there before the event.

Rocky Falls - Hard 4 (M50)
A very average run not helped by the inability to run at anywhere near a decent pace because of the back, especially noticeable going downhill. Very hestitant through 1 and 2 as more veg. than mapped. Biggest time loses were at 9, contoured round from termite mound rather than climbing, and 10 where I pulled up short on what I thought was a rocky knoll without reading the map to realise I hadn't crossed the power line. Amazingly I had the quickest splits through 11 and 12 where the pine forest was very runnerable. Not sure the course fitted the bill as a middle distance race.
