Orienteering race 1:09:57 [4] 7.16 km (9:46 / km)

Aus Relay Champs - Littlechild Creek (M35!)

Third leg after solid runs from Ian Jones & Stix. Did my best to throw it away between 1 and 2 and spent 20 mins trying to navigate from the second (southern) creek crossing when I had actually used the first, more northerly, one! After that slow progress around the rest of the course as I was feeling the previous week's exertions and struggling to stay in contact with the map. Luckily there were a few others around to help me on my way. As we were the only M35 team came away with a 1st place badge.

Note: GPS traces now added for the past week.

Orienteering race 1:17:10 [4] 9.16 km (8:25 / km)

Aus Long Champs - The Golden Fleece

Steady to 8 where MikeB caught me and I caught MalcolmR then a 7 min error to 9 where we were running around like headless chickens. Back by myself again to 16 where caught both MikeB and MalcolmR and then promptly binned another 7 mins to 17 having had to relocate off 14. The moral of today's run is don't get distracted by other runners, especially if you think they know where they're going when they actually don't! Overall disappointing as it had been a good run except for the 2 mistakes.

Orienteering race (Shadowing) 24:46 [1] 1.99 km (12:27 / km)

A mudfest with Nea. Not particularly fast but fun seems to have been had.

Orienteering race 20:50 [4] 3.82 km (5:27 / km)

Australian Sprint Champs at Bicheno

Great course with a mixture of both "urban" running and granite rock platforms along the coast. Only real problem was at 6. Pleased to come second in M50 - my first individual badge!

Running 1:28:14 [3] 12.85 km (6:52 / km)

From Waldheim Cabins where we were staying up past Crater Falls to Crater Lake, down past Wombat Pool and Lake Lilla to Dove Lake. Anti-clockwise loop around lake and then back to cabin via Lake Lilla track. Fantastic "low level" run, lots of board walks didn't take away from the experience . Most of the snow that fell on Monday had thawed.

Orienteering long 1:10:34 [4] 7.9 km (8:56 / km)

Tasmanian Long Champs - The Argonaut, St Helen's.

Just got to the start on time. Fine through 1 & 2 but then ended up at 4 before 3 on the first longish leg which didn't help relocating as wasted even more time finding 3. The rest of the course was okay with no real problems. A minor mishap on 10 as I misread the control number I was looking for but only lost 20 secs. Overall another average run coming in just above half way.

Orienteering race 53:59 [4] 5.37 km (10:03 / km)

Australian Middle Champs - Jason's Task, St Helens

Not an ideal start when your flight arrives late and after a 2 hour you just miss your start time by a couple of mins. Luckily there was a slot just after and my start time was adjusted accordingly. Okay but nothing spectacular through the first 8 controls but lost contact with the map on the way to 9 and had to relocate off the track. Scrapy through the next 2 but managed to see the control from where I was. Decided to tackle the dark green on the penultimate control and had to "swim" to make progress through the vegetation. Ended up a long way down in the results.
3 PM

Orienteering race (Shadowing) 23:20 [2] 2.14 km (10:54 / km)

Another panic getting to the start arriving there as it was being dismantled and the maps had already been taken away. A bit of a wait whilst they fetched one for Nea then a start stop effort, lots of hills to slow progress but finished in a reasonable time. Hopefully the enthusiasm will pick up!
