orienteering race 52:47 [3] **** 7.63 km (6:55 / km) +170m 6:13 / km
(injured) shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#6 Fluro)

I need to stop whinging about this, but I don't think I've ever travelled so far with such high expectations of an event to be let down by the planning. One of straya's current elites did the planning, but maybe we can let the blame slip to the controller who should have seen the problem. It really looks like a control was accidentally deleted from the map between 6 and 7.
First 5 controls, great use of the rock near the start with a particularly tricky cross slope downhill first leg. Overran 2nd control. 3-5 OKish.

Long leg to 6 (2k+) - I went straight, and jarred my leg which triggered the knee thing. Best route was a track run to the left. Then long leg (2k+) to 7 where only route was a couple of km of track.

So we are on one of the better granite maps in Australia and we waste 4k+ of the course on track legs. It looks like a control got deleted between 6 and 7, but somebody should have noticed.

Imagine that I was toasted on the track running, knee sore, unhappy, but did see a wombat on the way out and we had a Big Foot game of ultimate at Wagga Beach :)

Edit: somewhat ironically (and embarrassingly) I did the fastest time on the stupid leg #7, Tony messing up big time at the end. See splits.

orienteering race 38:54 [3] 5.55 km (7:00 / km) +118m 6:20 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#6 Fluro)

Aus 3 days, Connorton, middle distance, complex granite with some less granity bits.
2nd, about a minute behind Tony Woolford

Late decision to come, head not really in this at #1 and was just lazy reading map and consequently lost 2minutes+.
#2 was the long leg, I went left - think this may be the better route, but I lost confidence near the end, never seeing catching track. Happily my rough O was spot on and I hit the lead in spur. V happy to see the row of 4 enormous boulders.

Fairly clean round the loop 3-7, catching Freemo. Then too low for 8 (thanks fence), almost hit 11 before 10, god run with Freemo on longish leg to 12 where we caught turbo. Too many legs and not enough brains, we missed 14 & 17 a little.

I love this kind of country. Knee was OK, longer race tomorrow will be the test.

cycling 30:00 [3] 10.0 km (3:00 / km)

TFW the short way.
Knee felt a bit odd on the outbound, which is odd because its pretty much a freewheel. On the way home it was fine.
Its so long since I've commuted regularly I've forgotten the golden rule of those paint-on bike lanes and rode down the one on Burns Bay Road, but managed an expletive accompanied swerve to avoid a door collision.

Fitness test tomorrow, on plan (E) for the 3 days if I go OK.

Note
(injured)

Two good things - found a rogaine outside Barcelona that I can do in December at the end of my work trip and my little sister volunteered to come and be my partner in it. She is awesome (I can say that here because she doesn't read it). Also most of what she says about me is still lies, but I may have eaten some of her easter egg once.
