run 10:00 [3] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#3)

Run to start, aiming to go through normal start procedure and get a a regular feel for my run.
9 AM

orienteering race 47:36 intensity: (32:00 @3) + (15:36 @4) 6.45 km (7:23 / km) +171m 6:31 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#3)

NSW Champs - the long

Pick up map - long, long leg to first control (2+km).
Ran myself into the map and was pretty happy with route, speed and navigation, only to arrive and find.... wrong control code. Pottered frantically with no joy, relocating off the pipeline track before deciding to check descriptions on the map.... Doh ! what a screw up someone has made, different control code... aha, actually different course.

So, give up or go and restart ?
Decide that if I jog back the flat way I've got enough in the tank to go with the right map.
10 AM

orienteering race 58:33 [4] ***** 8.15 km (7:11 / km) +167m 6:31 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#3)

NSW Long champs take #2

Realise that I can't thrash myself. Good route to #1, then mess up very close to the control. Navigate in perfectly, see control in small gully just before it, then must have lost concentration, losing a couple of minutes here (GPS suggests 3+). Then fairly good, enjoying the long navigation, knowing that if I go steady, I can still place.

Lost contact on the penultimate long leg and had to stand still for a bit to relocate.

For final long leg I abandoned my chosen route to just bash out the ridge route to get the easier navigation. Seems to have been a faster route anyway.

1st in M50, but beaten by Josh Blatchford who dropped down to run sledge.

orienteering race 37:30 [3] **** 5.0 km (7:30 / km) +100m 6:49 / km

NSW Middle Champs.
Not really in a good mind for it, rushing straight from results. Missed #1,#2, last and didn't really get into a groove.

Great course though and I really enjoyed it. Deservedly beaten into 4th in M50 and flogged on the course overall.

Easter day 3 - shot at redemption

Figured I wouldn't get near Tony W, now he has his eye in, but could hold off Ken & Simon with a fastish cleanish run.

Felt I was running really well, making good decisions, really on top of the map. Couple of 30s mistakes, shoelace blow out and that was it. ... But I missed a control (111).

Didn't affect distance much and I would have been sub 50 with Tony ahead of the field. Continues my Easter tradition of no more than 1 decent run.
