Forest Orienteering race 1:28:05 [5] **** 11.5 km (7:40 / km) +405m 6:31 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Good race, not amazing but good enough to be happy. Started 6th which meant no tracking and literally no pack running. Started quite slow, easing into the terrain and lost time early just due to speed. Also made a small error (30 sec) at 2 on entry to control.Walked some of the hill to 2 to plan route to 4 which maybe could have been done on the run. Nailed route to 4 but lost 2 mins close to the circle due to a poor attackpoint. Got into a pack when I got out of the green and put some good speed in up to the pivot. Split here and made a 1 min error interpreting the vegetation wrong. Another 3, 30 second errors at 11, 12 and 14. Navigation in the yellow/green wasn't to bad butI became lazy with compassing and it was quite hot (not as hot as later on in the day though). 1:30 mistake on 18 when I had to go wide after not being able to find the rough open and a small 30 sec error on entry to 20. 1 min lost over the last three controls as I had a lot of energy and wanted to run hard but shoul have concentrated on the nav. All up an alright run but could have taken 7-8 mins off on mistakes and more on running speed as I had too much energy at the end and should have pushed harder in the yellow/green.

Running race (JWOC sprint) 16:57 [5] 2.9 km (5:51 / km) +5m 5:48 / km
shoes: Saucony Grid Type A4

Pretty poor run which wasn't a good start to the week. Lost about 35 secs on 1st control as I lined up 2 instead of one and ran hard towards it. Have been having trouble with calves and still feeling tight at the astarte which held me back running a bit. Along with this making slower route choices meant i lost time at 5,7 and added to time lost at 18 when I started up the wrong street. Nearly got dq at 19 because the wall in front of out of bounds was non existent and I had counted as an alley while reading ahead on the way to 19. So all up lost about 1 min 20 on mistakes and more on my running speed. Putting this one behind me and looking forward to tommorrow.
