Orienteering race 1:12:47 [4] 9.5 km (7:40 / km) +250m 6:46 / km

QOC Lake Needwood Blue - got the QOC season, the part for orienteers new and old at least, off to a good start with a lovely day and big turnout. Personally, paid a bit of a price for the previous day's 5K (though nowhere near what I would have for a road race) and presumably a bit more for intentionally running without a compass - figure it may be good for me to see how well I can get through the season that way, though I'll have to revert for at least the local event before each A meet I do just to ensure I'm not rusty on compass use when it matters. Also in discovering that the shoes I wore don't mix well with extra heel padding - got some blisters on the back of the heel going as a result, which I may now have to pop. Can probably do without extra heel padding anyway- the apparent case of metatarsalgia I have in my left foot is now easily my leading foot complaint. In any case, all that may account for more than the time Ken (suffering from his own foot troubles at the moment, I believe) beat me by but Eddie was far faster than that - some work remains to be done to regain a respectable level of performance relative to applicable historic standards. Ryan Stasiowski, on a course most of which was quite runner friendly, provided the runner had decent even if not stellar navigation skills, was just over ten minutes back of me with a bit more than that in error time according to AP splits analysis - a fairly encouraging result, fourth overall and slightly ahead of both Ted and Nadim, which I'd have to check to see whether he's ever managed before.
