Event: QOC Patuxent

Orienteering race 1:21:09 [3] 10.7 km (7:35 / km)

QOC Patuxent Blue - 3rd, with a very big (5 minutes lost to Eddie on the leg) parallel error. Ken apparently made a similar error, almost as large, on the same leg though, so can't take too much satisfaction in that. Also did a bit of a wander at the end of the longest leg of the course. Otherwise pretty good race, with some fading physically on the last few legs. Maybe that will go away when I don't do a long workout the evening before. I guess I'll find out this weekend in NC.

Weather had turned ridiculously pleasant by end of the start window when Dan and I both started so the Lennons' plan for kite flying came to surprisingly healthy fruition.

Orienteering race 1:05:32 [4] 8.5 km (7:43 / km) +405m 6:14 / km

QOC Pohick Bay Blue - a good race on a very physical, not particularly technical course. Eddie had a slightly better race (reported self-described as very good) - would have pipped me even if I hadn't lost 30 seconds to uncertainty when I reached the vicinity of the control, didn't immediately see it and spent a while vacillating over whether any uphill or downhill of me really looked as much like the control circle as something within visual range clearly ought to have. Still pretty happy with what it says about how my winter base training is going.
