Orienteering race 54:10 [4] 8.1 km (6:41 / km) +230m 5:51 / km

QOC Greenbelt Blue - good effort and no significant errors = good result. Wasn't sure at the time about some of the relatively direct routes I took rather than making more of an effort to avoid zones of unpleasant vegetation but the splits seem to be saying none of them were much worse than plausible alternatives and most of them must have been better. Quite a nice day with but a dusting of snow in the woods, at least where it had shadow to hide in, the sun out and the winds not quite as fearsome as the forecast suggested. And apparently real running is also compatible with right shoulder happiness. I still can't raise the arm above shoulder level without discomfort, increasing the higher I go, but I can live without that for a while, assuming no life and death need to do jumping jacks arises.

Orienteering 25:00 [2]

Some control pickup, not bothering to take a compass and actually paying for it by missing the first control and having trouble relocating. May actually have had more to do with not making enough of an effort to refuel after racing - was definitely running close to empty physically and that can't have helped me focus.

Cycling commute, including home by way of the aquatic center.

Deep Water Running 1:10:00 [2]

Shoulder turns out to at least be okay with the running movement absent impacts with the ground.

Cycling 52:00 [3]

Cycling commute. Also walked to and from the Kennedy Center to see Alvin Ailey. Was thinking of skipping it but on checking, found that the evening my subscription ticket was for all the pieces other than Revelations didn't ring a bell, and one was even by Ohad Naharin, longtime director of Israel's Batsheva Dance Company, so I went and left during the intermission preceding Revelations. Naharin, BTW, must be the most recycling-minded choreographer on the planet - three times I've seen pieces of his and all three have reused a lengthy set piece involving the dancers sitting on chairs in a semi-circle and at least two of the pieces, maybe three, also included a section in which the dancers fan out into the audience and select partners to dance with on stage. In fairness, one of the three pieces was a career summing retrospective, i.e. it was composed entirely of sections of other pieces from Naharin's long career.

Cycling commute. Also walked downtown to meet Dan for dinner and seeing Pina 3D, which was awesome.

Cycling 54:00 [3]

Right shoulder not messed up badly enough to make cycling impossible so I commuted and otherwise took it easy. Definite problems of discomfort/pain/limited range of motion, particularly in any attempt to raise the arm to the side above shoulder level.
