Event: QOC Jug Bay
 

Orienteering race 52:55 [4] 8.2 km (6:27 / km)

QOC Chase - pleasantly cool weather compared to the norm for this event and a stronger field than usual so quite a race and one unusually, compared to recent years, unmarred by extreme physical stress and brain fade induced mispunches. Ken, Eddie, Clem and I spent most of the race in contact with each other plus Dan Quinn, who wasn't dropped this time until the 3rd control of the third and last loop, with just three controls left until the finish. I had a good shot at twisting my left ankle exiting the 4th control on the first loop and a few lesser challenges to ankle stability through the rest of the course - beer may negatively impact surefootedness running in terrain, though it can hardly bear much blame for the first ankle twist less than 10 minutes after starting- but it fortunately wasn't enough to stop me running even though it was enough to cause noticeable swelling and motivate some icing, wrapping of the joint and ibuprofen once I got home. In any case, after much jockeying the race came down to a head-to-head race to the go control then finish and final beverage split between Ken and I, with no significant navigation involved, which I won, perhaps with some help from a deterrent effect of my previously demonstrated drinking speed superiority.
