Cross Country Skiing 1:35:00 [2]

|More relaxed outing than yesterday with friends.

Speed skating 47:00 [3]

After dark, having visited other friends with too many family obligations around Christmas whom I therefore hadn't seen in four years, did a full end to end skate of the canal plus a bit more because the ice was so fine between Carleton and Dow's Lake that I had to skate that part again.

Note

Appears no flights will be going to DCA tomorrow so I'll be stuck here another day. Probably just as well - it sounds as though it would have been nearly impossible to get anywhere from DCA tomorrow if I managed to get there. I'll just have to ski and skate some more. Darn.

Speed skating race 17:00 [4] 8.0 km (2:08 / km)

Skate leg of Winterlude Triahtlon - 17th but only 16 seconds back of the first split for the skate plus skate to ski transition. It isn't possible to gain any major advantage in the skate, unless you have Heiden-like powers.

Cross Country Skiing race 15:28 [4]

Winterlude Triathlon - ski plus ski to run transition. Course was in good shape so I dropped a bit less than three minutes to the lead pair, which included one former nordic skiing Olympian for 18th on this leg.

Running race 18:29 [4] 5.0 km (3:42 / km)

Winterlude Triathlon - 3rd fastest in the final run split with the two faster splits coming from guys several minutes back overall. Good enough to overhaul all but three of the superior skiers ahead of me, one of them in the last forty meters or so. About as good a result as I could have hoped for in the absence of ski training and with the run leg on pavement rather than largely on ice with a thin layer of packed snow on top of it (no advantage from using O shoes this year, so I didn't).

Cross Country Skiing 4:00:00 [2]

A lovely day to try and ski on all of the interesting back country trails in the central part of Gatineau Park. Didn't quite manage that but covered a lot of ground even at a relatively slow pace.

Cross Country Skiing 1:35:00 [2]

Easy ski outing in the Greenbelt.

Thursday Feb 4, 2010 #

Cycling 35:00 [3]

Home from work through upper NW.

Wednesday Feb 3, 2010 #

Swimming 38:00 [2]

Flutterkicking, some front crawl and rather more breast stroke. Tried the Marie Reed pool for the first time - nothing to get excited about but might occasionally be more convenient than other pools north of me.

Core exercises 8:00 [4]

Armchair orienteering 1 [0]

Route choice with the GLOF 2003 maps. Definitely a fair bit I would do differently if I ran those course now.

Cycling 33:00 [3]

To work. Sidewalks were inconsistently cleared. Wouldn't have biked except my body was telling me yesterday that three days of trail running in a row had been a bit much for certain body parts.

Running 1:25:18 [2]

Run to work through Rock Creek Park.

Core exercises 8:00 [4]
