Running 20:00 [5]

Playing tag with my nieces in their back yard, reduced to an estimate of actual running time. Much side to side movement making feints and lots of fast acceleration and deceleration. I think this is much more to blame for subsequent muscular soreness and stiffness during the week than were the previous two days of orienteering. Though the latter exacted a toll through exposure to poison ivy - next time I run in Ganaraska, I'm washing up with Tecnu or an equivalent product whether I feel particularly itchy or not.

Orienteering race 1:26:22 [4] 11.1 km (7:47 / km)

Ontario Champs long - 1st by not quite 4 minutes over Mark and another fiveish over Nick despite feeling slightly less than prime physically as Hans and Nick, at least, presumably Wil too and I'm less sure about Mark had some big errors plus physical problems, i.e. a triumph not because I navigated brilliantly or ran really fast but because I navigated consistently adequately and ran fairly fast. I'll still take it.

Orienteering race 37:59 [4]

Ontario Champs Middle - fifth with enough small to, on control nine in particular, medium sized errors that winning might just have been in reach.

Orienteering race 18:19 [5] 3.7 km (4:57 / km)

Ontario Champs sprint - not sure of placing but well back after apparently larger errors than I realised while running. Hans won in around 16:40.

Running 1:05:00 [2]

Running home from the Freer Gallery after seeing what is apparently the only complete surviving Chinese martial arts (given the lack of sophistication of the fight scenes compared to modern standards, the term is being used loosely) film from the silent era. With live musical accompaniment by a three member ensemble that has been touring nationwide with the film - Dan saw the same program in Bloomington last month. Went by way of the Lincoln Memorial then up the Potomac shoreline and Rock Creek Park, with a bit of an excursion through Georgetown in order to get from the dirt trails on the east side of the first stretch of creek to the dirt trails on the west side further upstream, then through Adams Morgan.
