Orienteering race 1:29:41 [4] 13.96 km (6:25 / km) +120m 6:10 / km

Batona 500 Pakim Pond Blue - felt like good race except for very bad first attack on 5 trying to come at it from the south and eventually bailing to the trail west of the control to reattack and lousy first and second attacks on 17 thinking I'd been pushed south by the vegetation on the way towards it the first time so turning north rather than south then missing low when I came at it again. Momentarily mystified by my slow split on 16 but then realised it must be due to time spent eating my gel and drinking. Not that that's good since ideally I'd have been organised enough to eat my gel as I approached the control.

Great weekend of racing - much thanks to DVOA!

Event: BATONA 500

Orienteering race 47:20 [4] 7.45 km (6:21 / km)

Batona 500 Middle - good race excepting 5 through 7 - got confused by a small trail in the early bit of heading to 5 so ended up attacking it from 6 and then managed to overshoot 6 coming back. Left trail a bit too early on 7 and lost time while I decided the reentrant I could see was clearly not pointing in the right direction.

Orienteering 6:08 [5] 1.3 km (4:43 / km) +5m 4:38 / km

Batona 500 Sprint A - hard not to have an adequate race technically. Not at top speed after the main event earlier in the day.

Orienteering race 9:58 [5] 1.75 km (5:42 / km) +10m 5:32 / km

Batona 500 Sprint B - another decent sprint, a bit shaky reading vegetation on 4 and shakier on 8 - both caused unnecessary hesitation - and almost missed seeing 7 on the map.

Cycling 1:03:00 [3]

Idiotic of me - I'd seen the signs earlier in the week saying the pool would be closed this Friday for the holiday. No swimming today, just a slightly longer bike ride than usual to no purpose.

Cycling 1:08:00 [3]

Work commute in. Need to time myself a bit more often - my stock answer for how long it takes me to bike in to work may be a minute or so longer than it actually takes me on days the lights cooperate. Home by way of PCRM.

Cycling 1:33:00 [3]

Rainy commute to work - fortunately shoes, etc. just about dried overnight. Home by way of the Hirshhorn Museum for an evening with a Danish maker of short films.

Cycling 1:06:00 [3]

Commute in and home with grocery shopping and swimming en route.

Swimming 34:00 [4]

Had to do something to avoid watching too much repetitive election coverage.

Cycling 1:04:00 [3]

Cycling to work. Not feeling too wiped after the heavy volume but low intensity weekend. Home by way of the aquatic center.

Swimming 38:00 [4]

Appears I can do butterfly again. Ribs still an issue for abdominal exercises but I think they're fine for just about everything else now.
