Cycling 1:00:00 [3] 14.0 mi (4:17 / mi)

Discovered that my lazy assumption that extending the Blue line to outside the Beltway would mean quicker trips onward to Patuxent was wrong. Unfortunate that my usual running behind plan, a flat and this made me later than I'd told George Ford I'd show up to help with registration.

Orienteering race 1:14:06 [4] 10.2 km (7:16 / km) +325m 6:16 / km

Blue course at Patuxent - warm and sunny but not as much of a burden that way as the Billygoat. A slightly sloppy day at the margins but mostly just too much cycling in the preceding 24 hours slowing me down by perhaps 4 or 5 minutes over what should have been acheivable.

Note

MCRRC Difficult Run XC - the logistics of getting out there without unduly exhausting myself ought to be manageable.

A day away: maybe, maybe not - I may be sufficiently overprogrammed for the weekend that I'd rather just sleep in.

Modern Dance 1:30:00 [2]

One advantage of blowing off the cross country race - I go to my first dance class in about a month.

Cycling 2:20:00 [3]

Grocery shopping, heading uptown for an extremely long sample of classic Bollywood output, Mughal e Azam (a little too much melodrama, not enough musical numbers and modern Bollywood does dance better) then downtown for a really cool French film by an American director (named Ra'up McGee - either a nom de plume or fairly interesting ancestry there), Autumn, about a disturbed assassin, his lover, a small selection of Parisian underworld figures and a briefcase everyone wants to get their hands on (a suitcase with a three digit combination - why on earth would you bother torturing someone for the combination of a lock that only has 1000 possible settings?). Intensely eerie gamelan music too.

Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 16.0 mi (5:00 / mi)

Commute plus to and from my first couple of Filmfest DC films - a Chinese remake of Letter from an Unknown Woman and 5x2, a French film chronicling the failure of a marriage in reverse, i.e. in five episodes starting with the finalisation of their divorce (bizarrely followed by an assignation between the two principals) and going back in time almost to their first meeting.

Cycling 1:28:00 [3] 17.5 mi (5:02 / mi)

Commute and trip to the Library of Congress to see the original "Assault on Precinct 13" - somewhat crude but effective, particularly the music John Carpenter wrote for it.

Running 1:33:00 [2] 10.0 mi (9:18 / mi)
shoes: NB856

Easy run to work through Rock Creek Park. Though not so easy - it's a long way to run before breakfast (though not as long as it would be if I ate a normal breakfast first).

Cycling 40:00 [3] 8.0 mi (5:00 / mi)

Cycle home by way of latest DC public library trustees meeting. Glory be, they've recruited an interim director from outside who's apparently been a librarian both in Detroit (where he said they had about the same circulation as the DC system with twice the population) and some smaller extremely well-funded place (Shaker Heights? he said they had about the same circulation as DC with a population of 30,000). In any case, he sounded politely offended at the state of the system - a vast improvement on all the people who have been used to the embattled status quo.

Cycling 33:00 [3] 6.5 mi (5:05 / mi)

Running 25:00 [4] 4.0 mi (6:15 / mi)
shoes: NB856

Left bike at work then took Metro out to Vienna and ran part of the way out to REI to assist Greg with an O clinic there. Part way since Greg picked me up en route.
