Orienteering 1:09:42 [4] 8.16 km (8:33 / km) +250m 7:24 / km

Blue course at meet put on by Fork Union Military Academy - pity about all the snow further north keeping people away. It was cold though not deadly cold (I should have worn lighter gloves) and there was at most an inch or so of snow on the ground on a bright, sunny day. Driving conditions were fine too. My orienteering, OTOH, was a bit sloppy though not bad if I could ignore an epic stupid parallel error on the way to control 3 - I actually found control 4 about 45 degrees off line first. Felt a bit tired and clumsy too, partly due to fairly thick and quite deadfall strewn woods.

Running 2:20:00 [2]

Long run to, in and back from Rock Creek Park. Some snow showers but serious accumulation didn't begin until about an hour after I finished. The trails therefore only had the little bit of snow that fell earlier in the week on them and it had been pretty well trampled everywhere but on the rockier sections of the Valley Trail.

Running 43:00 [3]

Running for transport - took Metro in then ran partway home (bought a more unwieldy amount of groceries than I'd intended so switched to Metro again).

Note

Have eventually been forced to admit that the gash in the web between my right thumb and index finger incurred during Saturday's WRE will never heal if I don't immobilise my thumb to prevent it being constantly pulled open. Currently have my hand encased in an Ace bandage for this purpose. Bloody nuisance having a dominant hand with effectively no opposable digits.

Note

Also rethought my approach to entering splits. If the AttackPoint rankings are to be taken at all seriously, I should enter everything I can for which I don't deserve a self-awarded sporting withdrawal without regard to whether I have splits or not. I've now added my time to every race I've done in the past year which is entered in the race list.

Running 55:00 [3] 8.0 mi (6:52 / mi)

Running to and from Metro in the morning and then all the way home by way of the Takoma Park Silver Spring Co-op.

Right hand feels better after just over a day with the Ace bandage - bottom of cut now looks like extremely new skin rather than an open though not fresh wound. May still resort to punching with my left hand on Sunday though.

Running 12:00 [3]

Miscellaneous running to an from Metro. Took Metro in anticipating needing to head to the QOC BOD meeting after work but it was called on account of snow. Was saved the trouble of getting my bike home, in any case.

Core exercises 6:00 [4]

Crunches, bicycle and twisting situps while watching Alias.

Cycling 1:14:00 [3] 14.5 mi (5:06 / mi)

Commute with grocery extension.

Orienteering 17:22 [5] 2.86 km (6:04 / km) +130m 4:57 / km

US Team Fundraiser Sprint - fun, hesitated at 6 higher up the spur from the desired hilltop on something that might plausibly have rated a formline hilltop if the map had been updated to sprint standards, almost overran 10 by not seeing the trail junction east and slightly south of it - distance judgement kicked in and made me look right just in time. Thought I was under 17:00 but my sense of elapsed time (in this case, from finishing to checking the clock) is notoriously elastic.
