Running 48:00 [1]

Jog in Rock Creek Park with Dan in early afternoon. Could hear Easter bell concert emanating from National Cathedral from the section of the Valley Trail around and south of Pulpit Rock. Initially thought it must be from somewhere closer but the cathedral spires were visible from part of the trail and the direction matched perfectly with the sound.

Cycling 1:10:00 [3]

Round trip to Nadim and Peggy's to get a ride with Nadim up to Michaux.

Orienteering 2:30:00 [1]

Looking at map in progress and terrain in Michaux. Portions of Cydonia Ponds we'll use for middle distance even nicer that the northern part of the map I looked at last August led me to expect, fully justifying the enthusiasm from Eddie in particular.

Running 41:00 [1]

Jog with Dan in Rock Creek Park in early evening, ending just slightly before dusk falling would have started to be inconvenient.

Cycling 1:22:00 [3]

Work commute plus trip to Kennedy Center and back. Wouldn't normally go to an Indian classical dance performance and not going to change my mind based on this one but it was included in my dance series subscription. Live musical accompaniment was fine, at least.

Orienteering race 1:56:10 [3]

QOC Little Bennett 2 hr score-O - really lovely day out and this time I brought sunscreen. Had two mildly troublesome controls and a problem with my 405 switching from showing my elapsed time to showing how far behind some default pace per kilometer I was. Therefore wasn't at all certain how much time I had when I reached the finish or I would have tried for the control about 200m southwest. Had been working e-punch computer from 10:30 to 1pm and busy preparing for that earlier in the morning so hadn't been organised enough to bring any gels to take with me on course. Probably don't have the muscular endurance to have run a whole lot harder late in the course in any case but that would definitely have helped. Course might have been cleanable some other year when I've been in better shape. In my current shape, I think I could have picked up at least another 140 points.

Friday Mar 15, 2013 #

Cycling 52:00 [3]

Commute. Also walked round trip to Kennedy Center in the evening but won't log that. Maybe if I'd walked a bit more than an hour and a half continuously.

Thursday Mar 14, 2013 #

Cycling 1:15:00 [3]

To work. Home by way of PCRM plus some grocery shopping.

Wednesday Mar 13, 2013 #

Cycling 58:00 [3]

To work. Home by way of the aquatic center.

Deep Water Running 1:01:00 [4]

Hard to DWR at intensity 4 for long but not quite impossible, though the effort level ebbed a little bit in the middle of the workout.

Tuesday Mar 12, 2013 #

Cycling 52:00 [3]

Work commute. Walked to the Kennedy Center thereafter.

Monday Mar 11, 2013 #

Cycling 33:00 [3]

Cycling from Wheaton to work then home.

Sunday Mar 10, 2013 #

Deep Water Running 1:06:00 [3]

With limited time if I was going to make it to Once at the AFI, tried to do this at intensity level 4 from the point of view of my muscles. Don't think that quite delivers intensity level 4 on the cardiovascular front.

Saturday Mar 9, 2013 #

Orienteering race 1:04:14 [4] 8.4 km (7:39 / km)

QOC Granite Blue - worked the e-punch computer for almost the duration of the start window then ran myself. Decent enough run technically though no doubt could have been a couple of minutes better on that score and another couple if I'd managed not to tweak my right ankle again as I left control 5. Jalas Control shoes really not the equivalent of Active Ankles, a pity since they're much more comfortable. The rest of the time difference is presumably about how much faster Eddie is at terrain running at the moment - good for Eddie; evidence I have some work to do.

Friday Mar 8, 2013 #

Cycling 38:00 [3]

To work in the morning then onward to Wheaton in the afternoon to get rental car.

Thursday Mar 7, 2013 #

Cycling 1:10:00 [3]

Work commute including dropping by PCRM in upper NW on the way home.

Wednesday Mar 6, 2013 #

Cycling 34:00 [2]

Cautious ride into work, not that conditions were really very dangerous what with light traffic and everything that managed to stick to the pavement gelid at worst, certainly not solid enough to stop a tire making contact with pavement. Worst part was wet snowflakes adhering to the lenses of my glasses.

Tuesday Mar 5, 2013 #

Cycling 54:00 [3]

Work commute.

Monday Mar 4, 2013 #

Cycling 36:00 [3]

Cycling from Wheaton to work then homewards.

Sunday Mar 3, 2013 #

Deep Water Running 2:22:00 [2]

Time for some exercise again. Since my right heel seems determined to be a problem - perhaps I should turn on the injured flag - went with running in the pool rather than a trail run.

Note

Made flight and hotel reservations for Flying Pig.

Saturday Mar 2, 2013 #

Note

No exercise worth mentioning but a lot of nervous energy expended as race director for the trail 10K. Fortunately, QOC has lots of experienced and competent volunteers and the event went off with nothing resembling a significant hitch and the now usual good reviews verbalised and bad reviews either absent or politely suppressed. Though I did get a bit of bellyaching from people who would have placed better in their age groups if I'd kept the same groups as last year instead of realigning in hopes of having some participants in the oldest group (which didn't work as well as it might have since we ended up with only one finisher 65 or older - still one more than in 70+ either of the previous two years).

Happy to now have no plans to direct an event, set courses for an event or significantly update a map for the remainder of this season. Though I may get sucked into some course setting for the mooted training day on April 13th.
