Running 13:30 [1]

Warmup/cooldown/rest between repetitions.

Form exercises 5:00 [3]

Bum kicks and A's.

Running 9:00 [5]

4x600m I intervals on grass - about the usual speed but half the usual distance since Canadian Trials are this weekend.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Another easy commute in and home again. Hot and humid outside - a taste of things to come during the summer.

Tuesday May 30, 2006 #

Cycling 1:09:00 [3]

Cycling to work, somewhat easier than usual given that I'm supposedly tapering for Alberta. Home by way of TPSS where I loaded up on health food staples.

Monday May 29, 2006 #

Cycling 59:00 [3]

Cycling to work (what with having just taken two weeks off and disappearing to Alberta on Friday, working seemed like a good idea) and back.

Running 8:00 [1]

Warmup and cooldown.

Form exercises 20:00 [3]

6x100m strides, silly walks and hill bounding with Dan looking on and running hither and yon herself.

Orienteering 2:20:00 [2] ****

Running on Hammonds Rocks while Dan and sister did the 6 hour version of SVO's rogaine. Variable effort but never very high except when I ran across a turkey in one of the more runnable sections of woods and decided to give chase. The turkey flew to get away after 50 meters or so so I disengaged but then it kept up nervous clucking so I left the trail and gave chase again with the same result. Have established that the most detailed rocky parts of the map exceed my ability to grasp completely even while standing still with a magnifier. I'll have to go back sometime and very carefully hang some bags then do a long session of doing legs between different ones at random.

Cycling 59:00 [3]

Cycling to work. Warm enough to do in shorts and a short-sleeved top. Hopefully this gets to be the default from now on. At least cycling home again in shorts was no problem.

Thursday May 25, 2006 #

Running 1:18:00 [2] 8.0 mi (9:45 / mi)

Run to work through Rock Creek Park. No wildlife sightings but passed a dog running on three legs near the end of my run. The dog had a bandage or cast around its left foreleg and was holding it elevated as it ran.

Cycling 40:00 [3]

Cycling home by way of PCRM, where the scale claims my G value dropped significantly during my recent two weeks of travelling and orienteering. Will have to confirm with another scale somewhere else when the opportunity comes.

Core exercises 5:00 [4]

Just abdominal stuff.

Cycling 31:00 [3]

Commute in. Somewhat warmer though still not up to seasonal norms.

In other news, I confirmed in Estonia that my Silva battery charger works, though it appears there's a need to check and make sure the leads are making good electrical contact with with battery. I've now got a battery I left charging overnight distinctly warm to the touch so it appears I have a functioning lighting system. I've no idea why combining my voltage converter with Clem's charger didn't work when I tried that but I'm not required to tie up all the loose ends.

BTW, if you take UK size 12. Letro Sport AB has dropped their last pairs of Jalas Black FLX 2005's to 200 kroner (about $40, approximately a third of the price for the latest model). At the risk of being crowded out of my room by O shoes (a purge is in order), I ordered two pairs.

Running 1:05:00 [2] 6.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: NB856

Run home from the AFI Silver (saw Jean-Pierre Melville's "L'Armee des Ombres") through Rock Creek Park with my now functional headlamp system. Got as close as I've ever been to a very young opossum (small enough to be taken for a normal sized rat at first glance) on the Pine Branch Trail just a few meters from where it joins 16th St. I find, on reflection, a certain pleasing strangeness in the fact that, as far as I recall, I've seen possums in the wild twice and both sightings occurred within that hotspot of wildlife viewing, the District of Columbia. Though I have the vague notion that the possum's range doesn't extend as far north as Ottawa so I guess that really isn't all that surprising.

Running 7:00 [1]

Warmup/cooldown.

Form exercises 23:00 [3]

4x100 m strides, silly walks and bounding.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Commute in again. Surprisingly cool this morning as yesterday morning. Warmer going home and then walking onwards to see a documentary about cantors at the DCJCC.

Cycling 1:07:00 [3]

Commute in. Have much training to enter from the past two weeks but I'm not about to get that done today. One comment for now - I've never removed as many ticks from my body as after the US Team Trials long course yesterday. Three when I got to my car afterwards, three more when I stopped for gas a bit later, even one tiny one from my leg during my last paranoid search during my stopover in Atlanta in the evening. Made for a very unquiet evening and night what with thinking every random itch might be a final one I had missed.

Commute home with some grocery shopping.

Core exercises 10:00 [4]

Back to doing strength now that my two weeks of orienteering are done. While watching 24 wrap up.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Commute in after returning rental car. And home, not hurrying much. Thought about running afterwards but legs didn't feel quite right and I decided there was little to gain and potentially a lot to lose.

Core exercises 12:00 [4]

The usual while watching 24. Will try not to think of what I'll miss while in Estonia and Denmark the next two Mondays.
