Orienteering race 1:35:23 [4] 12.8 km (7:27 / km)

Susquehanna Stumble XVII - on a much nicer day than it looked when I got up and saw the rain outside, a victory, just, in a sprint finish with Sam Kolins after going back and forth within not much more than spitting distance of each other for much of the course, later upgraded to a much larger margin of victory when it emerged that Sam, having got ahead of me on the last window control when I succumbed to my besetting sin of the day, letting gravity seduce me into dropping lower than intended during legs of more or less contouring across the hillside, had mentally transposed himself from that control to the similar second last control, which he therefore skipped whilst trying to navigate directly to the go control from there (with understandable confusion over how he could be so low on the hillside compared to where he should have been if he'd been correct regarding where he started from). My second Stumble win, which the annually updated pamphlet leads me to believe means I've now been inducted into the Stumble Hall of Fame, tied with Ken at 2 wins.

Pretty good turnout from QOC, though somewhat better was imaginable given the absence of some usual suspects due to holiday commitments and other factors. I liked the map just fine - rather hope SVO uses is for the 2016 Mid-Atlantics.

Time is a little bit uncertain - race definitely didn't start quite at 11am but the results software appears not to have been updated with the actual start time for any results that were available at the meet and I didn't time myself.

Cycling 2:10:00 [3]

Round trip to John Baker's place.

Orienteering 2:13:00 [1]

First terrain scouting of the day at MCBQ and for a change three out of the four of us found mostly pretty terrain. Modest amounts of rock in my section mostly white and light green woods once one got out of the floodplain of the major stream crossing the training area.

Orienteering 1:52:00 [1]

Moved to an adjacent TA for the afternoon and spent just under two hours almost continuously in woods on a continuum from unpleasantly thick to horrifyingly thick. Also featureless. Three out of the four of us having had a similar experience, a thumbs down for any orienteering us, let alone for the prospective A meet.

Running race 18:11 [5] 5.0 km (3:38 / km)

SOME Trot for Hunger 5K - very nice day for same race I did last year on Thanksgiving , warm enough I ditched my plan to wear a thin long sleeve top in favour of just my QOC singlet (had on tights, QOC buff and light gloves) so as not to feel warm prior to the start. Finished 3rd male 40-49 again but with chip time 13 seconds faster than last year. Maybe disappointing in that I felt going in as though I were in good enough shape to go somewhat below 18 minutes but then again my chip time last year was 53 seconds slower than another near perfectly flat 5K I did early that September so maybe regular seasonal temperature (or fitness) fluctuations account for that (in addition to my having done no recent road racing and negligible speedwork - my limiting factor may well have been less than great tuning of my run fast muscular program rather than oxygen processing capacity).
