Multisport race (duathlon) 1:03:30 [5] 14.95 mi (4:15 / mi) +881ft 4:01 / mi
Chilly Cheeks Duathlon #1 30degrees, dry roads
4mi run (2.5mi on road/pavement, 1.5mi on dirt trail, slightly rolling course)
10mi bike on twisty rolling roads in Cherry Creek (quite windy this year)
4mi Run 27:49 6:58/mi pace, yes! 25th oa
Transition 2:18, dawdling
10.8mi Bike 33:07, 19.6mph wish it were under 30min- but ok since I haven't biked much lately. Used tri bike. 59th oa (yeah, I know, I haven't been training would have needed a 30:30 on the bike to be ranked 25th there too)
Total: 1:03:14
5/89 woman, 3rd/25 f29&u, 32/210 oa
Fastest women's time: 59:13
Faster than last year, but the women's field was much more competitive, mostly due to a large contingent from the CSU Tri Club. I was 2nd women finished with the run, 1 passed me in transition and 3 more passed me on the bike, and I passed 1 on the bike.
Compare to last year (roads had a few small icy patches so conditions may have been slightly slower, but not by that much):
Last year, 1:06:59 was the fastest woman. I've been running a fair amount
Last year, I was 4th woman (1st 29&u) with a 1:10:02 = 30:53 + 2:56 + 36:14.
My run time was a lot faster because I've been running a reasonable amount and my general fitness is better. I guess I REALLY dawdled in transition last year since I had trouble getting my bike shoes on this year (wearing gloves makes it tougher). My bike speed increase can probably be mostly accounted for by the slightly icy roads last year, I rode my roadie last year, and my general, but not bike specific, fitness is better.
I love the hot cocoa and cup of noodle soups at the finish. I needed a few before I stopped shivering violently. I saw a few people out there wearing shorts though. I was a little warm on the run in my lightweight tights and long sleeve smartwool shirt, and gloves, but I felt comfortable on the bike. I got really cold as soon as I finished though despite bundling up.
