6 PM

Run 51:09 [0] 5.32 mi (9:37 / mi) +661ft 8:36 / mi
shoes: Saucony Mirage

Social run. Left knee really hurt, so I took a small shortcut and walked a bunch. Ugh. Glutes/Quad/Hammies sore from yesterday, that's ok, but the knee is not a good sore. Tomorrow will be off.

1 PM

Run 2:19:38 [3] 7.1 mi (19:40 / mi) +5192ft 11:37 / mi
shoes: 2nd pair - Saucony Guide 3

Up to Barr Camp, timed from the bottom of Ruxton. Ran from Ruxton to Hydro. Powerwalked from Hydro to the Barr Trail, the way the race goes, not through the lot. (15min so far) Then 1min run / 1min walk all the way to Barr Camp. That is more running than I'm likely to do between the beginning of barr trail to the top of the w's since its so steep walking is just as fast and then less running than I'll do from there to barr camp. Last year's ascent was 2 hours to barr camp, so I think my fitness is similar right now. I was carrying 4x+ the water I'll have with me after an aid station refill at the start. I think I'll carry a slightly bigger bottle this year than last year unless its cold, since I was finishing my 12oz handheld well before I could refill it at the next aid station for the far ones, but I'll used a 20oz, not the 110ish oz that I started off with today.
3 PM

Run 2:03:48 [3] 7.69 mi (16:06 / mi) +716ft 14:48 / mi
shoes: 2nd pair - Saucony Guide 3

Down from Barr Camp to my car at Memorial Park. My feet were feeling really pounded up the whole way so I walked a lot of it. One reason I don't do that more often is that I don't like going down and always feel really pounded up. Afterward, my feet still really hurt and my right knee is a bit sore. Nothing horrendous, but I feel it.

It was extremely hot out there. 95 or so at the bottom. I drank my whole 2L camelback + both bike bottles in my hip back and I still ran out 4mi from the car (no biggie since i was mostly walking down, but wow). I guess if I go farther I need to carry handhelds too or use my backpacking pack. On a much cooler day last year I did that with just the 2 bottle hip pack and was fine.

Bike 58:00 [3] 12.89 mi (13.3 mph) +1115ft

2x flying ranch/centennial loop. Done house-sitting = no more being lazy. I planned 1 lazy week after the garden 10mi but it turned into 2. Planning a jog to barr camp and back tomorrow. I'll be in big trouble with myself if I skip that workout. Especially after I spent a significant part of the day following live coverage of the ws100. Hit 41mph on flying ranch :-) With a headwind.

Run 50:20 [3] 5.5 mi (9:09 / mi) +700ft 8:10 / mi
shoes: Mizuno Elixer

Social Run with some of my favorite old guys. (I think most of my friends are old guys) Can't mix alcohol with the antibiotics I'm on for the kidney infection so I had mac 'n bacon instead. Totally knackered. I was too tired yesterday to to my research project for work that I was planning to do Thursday or Friday. So I got up at 4 this morning and started copying and pasting relevant tax code and emailed it to myself and went into work at 6:45 and kept working on it until 1. And then other work. 10 hour day today. I feel basically caught up now. Now I just have to get back to the house I'm 2xdog,2xcat (allergic to, I think), ??xfish, ??xplant/tree sitting for and hope its not quite the adventure it was last night to get the unfortunately-not-food-driven dogs-that-never-sleep in the house for the night.

Note
slept:3.0 (sick)

So wakeup call this morning was 3:30am with a very very painful kidney stone. Called a friend to take me to the ER at 5:45. I think it took the nurse about 5 tries to find a vein for the iv, but that's hazy and I didn't really notice. I spent all morning in the ER getting morphine and powerful anti-nausea stuff so I could keep the dye stuff down for the CT scan. Apparently I have a bunch of kidney stones (hopefully most of them are smaller than the one I felt this morning) and a kidney infection in my right kidney. And a nodule in my right lung that I should follow up on in 2 months. Pain is only mild now, so no reason not to go to work tomorrow. I'm a little bummed that I'm missing my 6pm 5k tonight. Hopefully its back to training tomorrow.

Note
(sick)

Crap, can't keep down the water/meds I'm supposed to be drinking. Maybe I have the flu too (its going around at work) :-(

Run 36:59 [2] 3.87 mi (9:33 / mi) +720ft 8:07 / mi
shoes: 2nd pair - Saucony Guide 3

Full Moon Run at Red Rock Canyon Open Space. I'm feeling a lot better than I was yesterday and Monday after 11 hours of sleep last night. I didn't exactly fall asleep at 7:45pm on my sofa last night on purpose, but I guess I needed it.

Note

Well deserved (for once) day off. Sore, race hangover, feet hurt.

Run race 1:17:52 [5] 10.0 mi (7:47 / mi) +1534ft 6:48 / mi
shoes: Pearl Izumi Streak

Garden 10 miler! 2 seconds faster than last year, actually :-) 1:17:52. That's with a 10min last mile and a 9min 9th mi since my stomach was very close to rebelling on me and I barely held it in until the finish line (avg pace 7:47). Somehow I still negative splitted by 30 sec. I guess that makes sense with more downhill in the 2nd half. I like downhill. I was hot. My stomach was my limiting factor here in the last 2 miles. That seems to happen frequently, especially when I'm a little out of shape. I'm jealous of all the ironstomachs out there. The only food in the 12 hours before the race was gatorade and water and a gu.
187/1564 OA, 29/691 F, 8/41 F20-24 (but got 4th award since 4 were top 10). One of my last races as a 20-24.

Run 22:12 [1] 1.98 mi (11:13 / mi) +298ft 9:49 / mi
weight:114lbs shoes: Mizuno Elixer

Garden of the Gods 10 miler tomorrow!!!

I'm not as fit as I was last year, especially for longer stuff, but I'll do my best. 1:17:54 last year. I'll be satisfied if I'm under 1:25 and happy if I'm under 1:20. I'm starting to get nervous. The course is really tough and painful. Its supposed to be in the low 60s by the finish and that's warm enough that the heat will hurt. I'm an achy mess today. Right hip, right knee, right achilles, right ball of foot all bugged me at some point during today's jog. Can I have a new right leg? Mine just doesn't bend straight and causes all sorts of grief. I'm making myself an ice bath for the first time since freshman year of undergrad.

Bike 59:11 [2] 11.36 mi (11.5 mph) +1228ft

Its just been one of those days.... Grabbed a corp tax return with the worst books known to man but they won't pay for a bookkeeper or for us to clean them up (well, total redo/reconstruct would be necessary in this case). Would most definitely be worth it since they have taxable income and it was obvious to me they didn't record a good portion of their rent expense for the year so goodness knows what other expenses they forgot to record in one of their two sets of books (one for income, one for expenses, generally). Ugh. Quickbooks is just garbage-in/garbage-out and makes people think they don't need to know anything about accounting. Nobody told me that during tax season there is a LOT of work but its all the people/companies who have their stuff relatively together. That is fun. This isn't. The "naughty children" get finished this time of year and through october. Not my position, but I'm not sure why they are still a client- pay us too little for too much potential liability and obviously don't care that their books don't make any sense whatsoever.

And one of my married friends at work *thinks* that I have to be lonely and desperate (I'm not) just because I don't have 3 kids already and its driving me up the wall to the point where I'll start to believe it on a day like today... If 23-30-somethings acted more like my 40-50-ish often-married runner guy friends I might be more interested. But they don't, so I'm not.

Bike ride, the strap that holds my usual rear light broke off my seatpack on Wednesday, so I put on my other rear light and then quickly figured out why I don't use that one. It clunks me in the back of my thighs every single pedal stroke. Rode Flying Ranch, got a good hill up Rossmere-Wilson. I was going to do a lap around the Garden but then my headlamp went out on me so I just rode home. Turns out I plugged the light into the charger but the charger wasn't plugged into the wall.

6am flight tomorrow morning to visit the parents. Back Sunday night. Tomorrow will be better than today.

Run race 21:40 [5] 3.1 mi (6:59 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Mirage

Low key 6pm 5k running races every other Thursday 5 times... The course is the 1k crit course at memorial park 5 times. Ran 21:40 and paced it somewhat badly but not atrociously. Hopefully in 9 weeks I can keep up the pace I took it out at today. Forgot the garmin coming from work, but I think k's were 3:56, 8:19, 12:50, 17:19, 21:40 soooooo 3:56, 4:23, 4:31, 4:29, 4:21 for each kilometer. My sister just did the OPENING 5k of a quarter marathon race (yes odd distance) in 18:25, so I need to step up my game here. I'm the slowest at everything now....

Bike 1:10:12 [3] 14.52 mi (12.4 mph) +1528ft

Blodgett - Flying Ranch. 1st Blodgett climb of the year, up 800 ft on yucky weak legs. Couldn't stay out of my 34-25, so skipped Rossmere and just stayed on Flying Ranch.. Weird winds out there today.
