First ski-O race of the year, at Frisco Nordic Center. I skied the Long course, which was 7.8k as the crow flies, but I think Sharon said it was ~11k skied. The course headed straight east to the hilly, formerly forested, area, and we did a lot of climbing. It was also a ridiculously warm day, so at the second control, I peeled off my hat, gloves, and jacket. I felt much better.
The navigation was pretty straight forward, but I still managed to mess up #1 by about 10 minutes. I took a wrong, parallel trail out of the start, and it took too long for me to figure it out. I did better after that, but still made a few questionable route choices. The most disheartening controls were those placed in reentrants, so you came screaming down the hill, only to have to come to a dead stop at the bottom to punch in, and then start up the hill on the other side with no momentum whatsoever. Ugh!
It had been 20+ years since I last ski-O'ed, so it was nice to get back to it..I snowshoed the races last year.
