Orienteering race 1:52:43** 8.5 km (13:16 / km) ahr:148 max:160
Beer Chase in QOC land. I had come down for an orthodontist appointment on Monday, and was so happy to be able fit in the Beer Chase. This is always a very fun event, and this year was no exception. The only bad part was the weather. It was so hot and humid that I was a little conncerned on the first of the three loops. I stopped sweating for a while and felt a little light headed. I hosed down before heading out for the second loop, and that seemed to help. Even though I had thought that I would only run the first two loops, I ended up running all three. I ran a lot of the race with Sam and Don, but then managed to pull ahead on the third loop.
After the race, I hung around, visited with some QOC'ers and ate some food...including a BBQ'ed goose leg thanks to Dan Quinn...it wasn't too bad. It did not taste like chicken.

A morning run in Jockey Hollow before heading south for the weekend. It was hot, hot, hot...and sticky. By the time I was finished, I was sweating as much as nadim and Sam Listwak, combined...and that's a lot of sweat!
I finally found the river trail through the Black River WMA! And it was a great place to try mountain biking again, which worked out much better than my foray yesterday on my road bike. This trail is very similar to the C&O Canal...straight and flat, surrounded by woods. The Black River along this stretch should more aptly be called the Black Linear Swamp, but it was still pretty.
My left knee (fka "the good one") has been the troublesome knee while biking. I think scar tissue has built up in there again, causing the pain. During the ride this morning, it hurt a lot in the beginning, but then I could hear popping and cracking in there, almost like I was breaking up some scar tissue with the bending motion. (The therapists actually did this same thing in PT.) The second half of the ride felt much better. I guess I need to keep doing this to keep that knee more flexible.
