Orienteering race 1:24:44 [4] *** 6.8 km (12:28 / km) +120m 11:27 / km

NAOC Day 3, Long Green X at Klondike State Forest. This was my worst race of the weekend. I missed on #1 (too far to the right in all of the other rootstocks), #4 (too far to the left in the flat area but relocated quickly), and #6 (disaster; had to bounce off the road to figure it out). I didn't feel tired and could keep pushing, except that I had developed a nasty blister on the way to the start. Thanks to Sandy for giving me a blister bandaid and some tape, but the wetness of the forest just wouldn't let them stick for long. So, I ended up running the course in a bit of pain, and at one point almost just DNFed because I was convinced I was so far behind with my earlier mistakes. But, it turns out many people had problems today, so I'm glad I stuck with it.

I ended up first in F45+ today, and for the weekend. This is definitely one of the best orienteering weekends, results-wise, I've ever had.

Orienteering race 53:54 [4] 3.9 km (13:49 / km) +105m 12:11 / km

NAOC Day 2. Green Middle course at Salmon River Fish Hatchery.

This was a fun day, except that it was so rainy, dark that it made it so difficult to read the map. It was very technical kame/esker terrain, where it wasn't always readily apparent what was up or down. I ended up treating this alot like Memory-O because it took too much time to stop, wipe off the glasses or magnifying lens, and focus in on all of the details. So, I minimized that and used my compass and pace counting a lot. I didn't hit them all right on, but at least to the edge of the circle on each of them except #10. I stayed too far to the east and hit a Green Y control. Relocated and headed west to the flat area and just hugged the edge of that into my control.

I ended up 4th on the Green X course, 1st in F45+.

Orienteering race 14:02 [5] *** 1.8 km (7:48 / km)
shoes: Salomon

NAOC, Green Lakes State Park. First sprint - Orange/Brown/Green

Happy with this sprint. Had a bad route choice coming out of #7 and getting to #8, but clean on the others. Got Peggy by about a minute because she had even more trouble with #8. Otherwise, we were even on every other control. Did something to my knee on the way to #8, and it started clicking. And hurting.

Orienteering race 17:21 [5] *** 2.3 km (7:33 / km)
shoes: Salomon

NAOC Green Lakes State Park. Sprint 2 - Orange/Brown/Green

This one went about the same as Sprint 1. Didn't have trouble on any control, but should have taken the road to #14 vs. the trail. Peggy and I were dead even at #15, but I took 4 seconds on her to #16 and she took 3 back on the run in to the Finish. I could not have run this any faster.

My knee felt fine during the race, but it is extremely sore now, at night. I've iced and Aleve'ed. Hopefully it will feel better in the morning.
