Adventure Race race 4:53:00 [4] 62.16 km (4:43 / km) +531m 4:31 / km
shoes: Asic Kayano 15

First point to note do not try to attach my compass to my map board with elastic bands again, for the second time after 2 minutes of riding my compass bounced off my bike and luckily made it through the stampede of mtb tyres behind me. Ride to first 2 cp's was pretty much follow the crowd, fortunately did not ride past the fence up to the O course, saw a few of the guys riding back that had ridden past it but they quickly rode into the distance up the hill while I plodded along up alone.
O-Course was fun, was pretty happy as hit first 3 controls, i managed to go too far south on CP4 so wasted a bit of time here, rest of the CP's were fine and spent most of the time criss crossing with Pip back to the finish.
Enjoyed the short cut down the rocks back to the road and the ride to aerial course was fine, hooked up with two other crew so shared the load. Nearly rode past CP3 as had the description screwed up in a ball in my backpack.
Decided to just get the mandatory number of CP's at aerial course and managed to get all but one of the wheatbelt towns.
Was a little concerned when I got back on my mtb to discover my tyre had a slow leak, really could not face changing the back wheel so just pumped it up and hoped for the best, but did make it a lot more difficult on the ride back up to CP21, pretty much rode alone did have some company for a while. Never planned to go the 19 and 20 was just interested in getting all the mandatory CP's. All good and 21, saw Pip again at 22 and then found the CP under the bridge after a bit of searching. Pumped up tyre again got 23 then rode into Rogaine.
Decided to get 8 of the CP's, left out I & H, managed to lose 3 pens on the way, had issues counting bays at Macca's didn't know whether to just include the ones with line on both sides...obviously starting to get tired. Watched some footy on the was to the tennis courts then a loop and back to the finish. Pumped up tyre again and homeward bound.
Decided to give hill a miss due to my dislike of hills especially with a flat tyre, was very excited to get onto the Kep track gravel hills though...not! Plodded up to 25, pumped up tyre then crossed road to 26, started to get a little tired here as for some reason thought CP was before dogleg, got there eventually and then tyre pump and down hill to first bridge stop...wrong one and then onto second and correct 27 bridge and then ride home.
Overall thought the course was great, plan going in was to ensure I got all the mandatory CP's after my appalling effort at last years Killafergus, so pleased to do that and actually take some time out to enjoy it. Need to fix map board and non flat tyres would have been nice. Could possibly have eaten some more and probably drunk a little more but felt pretty good afterwards and not completely shattered.
