Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Up

Orienteering 12:30 [3] *** 1.9 km (6:35 / km)
19c

Estimated time. 6 sets of O-Intervals. I had a little trouble on a few of them, sometimes due to navigation, sometimes direction, and other times terrain runnability, but not consistent errors. Very fast, though.

Orienteering 18:30 [3] *** 2.8 km (6:36 / km)
26c

Estimated time. Farsta (One-man relay). First one done, but everyone punched the start before the rules were explained so I'm not sure of my exact time. It's probably between 18-19 minutes, though.

Orienteering 11:07 [3] ***
14c

Starting exercise. Flip over the map, two controls, jog to next start, repeat. There were seven small maps used for this exercise. It was really tough when two controls were in an abandoned zoo area with lots of gates and walls to try and sort out. Really missed my magnifier at that point.

Orienteering race 18:32 [3] *** 3.0 km (6:11 / km)
24c

After visiting the zoo and waiting around a bit, we jumped into the race. There were lots of technical woods areas on it which really challenged map reading and route choice, because there was a fairly dense trail network and trying to run through the wrong areas could waste a lot of time. It made picking the fastest route much more interesting, so I really enjoyed this course.

Orienteering 9:18 [3] *** 1.4 km (6:39 / km)
21c

Precision map-reading exercise. Depending on the length of the leg, each person had to identify and touch 3-5 point features on the way before punching the control.

Orienteering 21:55 [3] *** 3.6 km (6:05 / km)
18c

A left-right decision-making street course. For the most part it was fairly easy to determine whether left or right was a better choice, but there were a few spots where it was difficult to decide. There was only one spot (the last control) where I definitely think I should have gone a different way.

Running warm up/down 8:30 [3]

Warm-up lead by Alex Jospe.

Orienteering race 15:36 [3] *** 3.0 km (5:12 / km)
25c

I say 25 controls because the last control to the finish was a route choice. I think I did very well on this course. No mistakes in route choice, but I did have to open a gate marked as passable at control 22. Other than that it was trying to survive running through fields while it's super hot and sunny outside.

Down

Orienteering 3:57 [3] ***

Another modification of the maze-O where you have a map with left/right/straight intersections. Pretty difficult to do the whole thing correctly (especially while running) because the grid you're running on and the map are completely different.

Orienteering 2:36 [3] ***

Different maze course.

Estimated time. Different maze course.

Orienteering 8:23 [3] *** 1.4 km (5:59 / km)
22c

(Boston Sprint Camp Begins)

Orientation/Direction exercise at Highland Playground. It went pretty well aside from the Orientation/Direction part. I didn't use a compass for this one so I kept leaving controls in the wrong direction. I think we were told not to use a compass, but I don't remember for certain.

Orienteering 6:01 [3] *** 1.0 km (6:01 / km)
9c

Compass exercise. Having some trouble keeping direction.

Orienteering 8:20 [3] *** 1.3 km (6:25 / km)
9c

Another compass exercise. Had a lot of trouble finding one control (which I ran right past without seeing), but I also realized at the end that the North lines on the map are slightly askew. There was a leg going through a field, and when I slowed down to make absolutely sure my map was oriented and I was running on the line, the map said I should be running about 7 degrees (give or take) off to one side of where the control was. So I'm not just really bad at compass running.

Orienteering 17:39 [3] *** 2.0 km (8:50 / km)
8c

Distance is estimated.

Partner training exercise. Two different maps, one person has each, first person does their 1-3, then the second person, first person does 4-6, then the second person, then both race each other on their respective 7-Finish. The purpose was to know where you were, even when the other person was the one navigating to their controls.

Orienteering warm up/down 9:15 [3] *** 1.0 km (9:15 / km)
8c

Estimated Distance.

Picking up controls after the first exercise. Opposite course from the one my partner had before.

Orienteering race 14:16 [3] *** 2.6 km (5:29 / km)
16c

Great first race, in the woods, lots of climb but I did quite well. Only one control I could have saved a few seconds on. Also should have worn x-Talons instead of F-Lites, but it only really mattered when running up steep hills.

Running warm up/down 5:15 [3]

Down

Orienteering 1:02 [3] ***
10c

(These were done after the compass sprint exercise.) A sort of modified Maze-O. The controls were at wall intersections of the maze and could be punched from either side. The purpose was to determine which approach to the control allowed the fastest route to the next control.

Orienteering 50 [3] ***
8c

Different maze course.

Orienteering 55 [3] ***
7c

Different maze course.

Running warm up/down 1:10 [3]

It wasn't really a warm up. I just ran to the approximate area of the start to the 5k race and then picked it up.

Running tempo 23:14 [3]

Went right into my run. I tried to go race pace on the 5k course from a couple weeks ago, but the race itself had been cancelled because of weather, so there was nobody else around me. I still pushed very hard and went quite fast (25 seconds slower than last time), and while I had to walk around a bit after I finished I still felt like I had a tiny bit left in me.

Running warm up/down 12:15 [3]

Don't remember the exact time but I know it ended with 15 seconds and it was either 12, 14, or 16 minutes. Very easy jogging after running hard.

Running 1:28:30 [3]

Long run. Not feeling super energetic but I kept moving pretty well.
