Orienteering race (Westchester Green) 1:30:51 [3] 6.9 km (13:10 / km)
shoes: Oroc 280

Another cool day, perfect for O.

As for me, ack, not good, not good at all. Completely dead physically; I was already walking half way to control 1. But the dead legs wasn't surprising given my good effort yesterday. What was surprising was the dead brain.

I struggled to get any sort of O focus at all. Kept doing stupid things even though I knew they were stupid, including no real route planning at all. Reminded me of Mt. Tom where I had the same sort of foggy brain. Such a waste of a nice course, on a nice map, on a really nice day ... fooey!

Ancillary brain damage. Forgot my control holder at the car. Forgot to even download at the finish. If Glen hadn't suggested we wait for Phil, and if Phil hadn't asked to see my splits, I would have left without downloading at all. Then left without picking up my relay map. Gack.

Stupid sport. I'm never doing this ... wait, another event this coming weekend? Oooh, let me check my schedule ...

Orienteering race (Westchester Relay Leg 2) 45:10 [3] 4.3 km (10:30 / km)
shoes: Oroc 280

Cool temps, perfect for O.

I had no team, and so arrived to find I'd been paired up with Thomas L and David O to form a 3pt team. A quick intro revealed Thomas to be a young fit star in the making, and so no question he would lead off. And David was rumored to be pretty fast as well, so we put him second. And "the Leftovers" was born.

However, 10 minutes before the start, no sign of David. So I approached the timing tent to look for suggestions, at which point Ed offered "Here, we'll change you to an illegal 7 point team, Steve you run 2nd, and I'll run your 3rd leg on orange. Bada bing." Thanks Ed!

As expected, Thomas crushed the 1st leg, and so off I trudged chased by a pack of really fast people, which was fine, because they all blew by me before I'd even reached the start triangle. I was basically on my own for the entire leg.

As for my leg, chugged along slowly, but zero errors, and spiked everything. Woo! Easily my best effort of the season.

The only disappointing thing is that I had no official team. Really kind of sad that WCOC could only put together a single team. We should've had 10 teams not one.

Walk/Hike (Holyoke 5K) 30:25 [3] 5.0 km (6:05 / km)
shoes: Pro Grid 6 pair 2

Warm, pleasant, ok for running, but just. Was really trying to make it without a walk break, but couldn't do it. Fooey.

Been thinking about possible goals for the year. The traverse comes to mind.
