Orienteering race (Pawtuckaway Green) 1:27:50 [3] 5.1 km (17:13 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Humidity thankfully much lower, so really nice day.

Having confirmed yesterday that red is too far for me, scaled back to green, which is still too far me, but I'm not quite ready yet to face that music.

Moving even slower, but also, sadly, navigation much poorer today. Completely confused by the area around #1; I was seeing many large boulders that didn't appear to me to be mapped, and I couldn't gronk the situation at all. Stood baffled for the longest time staring at one particular big boulder pile, until I noticed it had control behind it, which was my control, ie, my boulder pile was mapped as a knoll. Poor route choice to #5, and then I also lost contact badly on the way. I also completely forgot about the new bike trail, until I stumbled into it. Dummy. Then missed #6, twice, in the control circle, not sure how.

But putting aside the foggy brain, and the pathetic fitness, I am so happy I went. Pawtuckaway remains my favorite map, and the event was terrific fun.

Orienteering race (Pawtuckaway Red) 1:38:48 [4] 6.4 km (15:26 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Warm day, 80s, brutal oppressive humidity. Broke out in a sweat just putting my shoes on.

Decent day navigating, never really lost contact. OTOH, I was moving at glacial speed, rarely much more than a walk, so that makes navigating a whole lot easier. Another plus of moving so slow was that the humidity really wasn't an issue.

Some dubious route choices. To #1 I followed the trails to the right, which had the effect that I ran right through a wedding ceremony, bride and groom at the front, taking their vows -- how cool is that. Did my best to tip toe quietly on my spikes. To #8, I thought I'd be brave and try the left route via the tiny green connection, but this turned out to be pretty daft as the "white forest" that way was thick rough going.

Was surprised/concerned that there was no water on the course until control #10. This would be the only downside to an otherwise superb event.

Running race (Holyoke 5K) 28:18 [2] 5.0 km (5:40 / km)
shoes: Saucony Progrid Ride 6

Warm, high 80s, and quite humid.

Horrible "run". OK effort for the first mile, but just died totally from there. Lots of walking. Very discouraging.

Running (Ashley Res) 32:00 [3] 3.6 mi (8:53 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Progrid Ride 6

Sun setting, quite pretty, pleasant temps, but sneaky humid.

Felt OK, not bad, not good, just OK, which was plenty fine.
