Trail Run (Messy) 1:35:00 [3] 8.9 km (10:40 / km)

Kids at a birthday party, Mrs. W & I out running errands, so I got dropped at Lawrence/DVP to run the valley home. Not a lot of traffic on that stretch ever, so sloppy/wet/messy and slow. Lost a yaktrak at last Ocup and could have used them on a few off camber icy spots on the side of the valley. Felt so good to be out.

Orienteering race 1:43:00 [4] 8.0 km (12:53 / km)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Headed west to the wilds of Kitchener for the Stars OCup finale. Found Chicopee Snow Tubing nearby so was able to make it a family outing and dropped them for a couple hours of sliding.
Cold at the start, but knew it wouldn't last once we got moving. Cut to the right off the start to follow some other footsteps, then the conga line up the hill to CP1. Over into Box 1 and no problems F-E-D, then around to A and across to B. Follow deertracks back to main trail and things get interesting. Ignoring my compass, I head to what I think is N/S trail, but is in fact E/W trail. Don't realize my error until I look up and see apartment building where there shouldn't be one. I'm up by A (again). Oops. Rather than just turn and go back to correct trail, I try and cut along the West edge, hoping for broken trail. Of course, I should have go all the way to the road, but that would have made too much sense. I give thanks to the multitude of deer who have broken trail for me as I get back to the main trail near D and out of the box. Shuffle 2-3-4 and into Box #2. Decide on east loop, so over to F-G-E. At this point, I should have returned to the trails and picked up D and A, but for some unknown reason, I want to explore the deep blue wonder that is E to C. Get to C only to realize I've got more deep slogging to get anywhere. Slog back to D, then out of the box. Down the hill by 3, I pick up some trails to 6, down to 7, then a final deep slog over to 8 and the main trail to the finish. Route planning, Wayne. Take a moment and try it. Great day, thanks to STARS.
