UKR O-Cup at Earl Bales
Good day all around started with hockey gold. A successful race for me means great family logistics and this one worked great, as I dropped family across the parking lot to downhill ski while I raced. Decided to go with the Yaktraks given the ice around. Decent run to 1, then into the box for C-D-F-E then back up to 2. Probably should have started with B and dropped E, but oh well. Back down into the valley and across the dog yard (actually hopped the fence and went through it). Into Box #2. Crossed by the ski lift and heard cheering so I got high fives from my skiing family on the way by. A-B-C, then debated best option to climb up the valley. Followed trail N but then it looked a little easier so worked my way up on top and back to F. And went HR redzone by the time I reached the top. All the blood apparently ran away from my brain as I stopped looking at my map. Finished my last CP in the box (E) then plodded my way to what I thought was the finish (the community centre). If only I had something in my hand that would tell me where the finish actually was AND that there was another CP I needed to find. Finally glanced at my map and continued my extra stupidity loop right by the finish line, out to CP4 and back. Classic O-Cup: always find the CPs I'm looking for, just not always looking for the right ones.
Thanks to UKR for nice event. My wife appreciated the icewine.
