Orienteering (O-Cup #2: The Chase) 1:24:06 [3] 8.0 km (10:31 / km) +255m 9:04 / km

The family logistics worked out, with Mrs. W & the kids visiting friends in Dundas, so I dragged them into the car early on a Sunday morning and I got to do the Chase. Great day for it. Had never done any orienteering in this area and I was impressed with the terrain. Handicap of 2, so got to shuffle behind all the big boys off the later start. Follow the parade to 1, then over to the road. Was shuffling up the road, when my Endomondo coach announced my time for 1 km. Not that I was going to look at it, but decided I should turn off the audio and put it back in my pocket. Oops. Up to the trail and over to 2 no problem. It looked open, so decided to drop down by the river and work my way over towards 3. Took a trail up and over to 3. Grabbed D on the way down the steep and up the other side. Over to the second trail and crossed the road. Saw Gstix and some of the other racers coming back already. Guess my podium dream is over :). Over to F, then back up to the first trail, then cut over to the second trail. Followed to the end and down the edge to G. Had decided I would try and stay low by the river over to E, which worked for the first half, but likely should have climbed up onto the plateau, as it was nasty along the edge. Up from E to the trail, then back west across the road. Shuffled along and found B easily, then followed the trails around back to 3. Decided to drop A as too long and C as too much climbing. Considered two routes over to 4, but decided on lower route on larger trails. Got my shuffle on. Jumped across the creek over to 4, then decided to stay high across the plateau before coming down across and up to 5. Quick shuffle up to 6 and saw TOCer Aggost on way in as I was coming out. I knew she could run me down with ease, so got my shuffle on again to finish strong.
No what I would call real errors, other than E to F route choice and perhaps some more direct routes. And I could run better. Saw guy in the banana costume several times. Mama always said, when in doubt, follow the banana:)
Great organization, nice lunch and good to see familiar faces.
