Trail Run race 1:25 [2] 9.8 km (9 / km)

WhyJustRun the islands event, Part 1. Started off with the triangle puzzle, which I knew I'd never get right, so elected to be wrong first and take the penalty. Happy with my choices, although spent too long looking for CP103 that wasn't there anymore. One minor error on the road where I forgot what CP I was heading for. Not a bad effort for a non-runner like me. Distances are estimated as forgot to turn on GPS on my phone.

Kayaking race 1:23:00 [2] 7.06 km (11:45 / km)

WhyJustRun the Islands Part 2. Kayak. Missed the second challenge, so got in my kayak to wait out the 6 minutes. Decided to see all the islands, as I did the east end on the run and I'd do the west end on the kayak. Also, have paddled the western channels on Monday nights, so more familiar terrain. Felt good in the sirocco, although I'll have to see if Harbourfront actually has any boats that fit my legs. Got to the western channel and realized there were a couple of CPs off the first map that would be easily picked up if I jumped out of my kayak. Remembered the race briefing and couldn't remember anything that said I couldn't, so I decided to pick up points from 2 CPs. Ran into MJ and asked if it was okay, and it seemed that hadn't occurred to him. I took that as permission. In hindsight, even if they DQed the points from those 2 CPs, my ranking wouldn't have changed. Or looking at it another way, those 2 didn't help me. I did jump out near the lighthouse to get that CP and took on some stowaways once I started paddling again - RED BITING ANTS! Some frantic swatting, but not before multiple bites on my right arm and leg. Hit the far checkpoints and worked my way back. Debated going for 1 more, but decided I had enough paddling and was ready to come back to the finish a little early. Good thing, as I had forgotten about the challenge. I was working on it, and another racer tried it, but got it wrong, but the marshall accidentally blurted out the answer, which I immediately repeated back to her. I suggested the fair thing would be to give each of us a half penalty (4 minutes), which is what she did. And what happens after I run 10k, then stuff my long legs into a kayak? CRAMP!
Good, fun event and the kids had fun at Centreville, although maybe next year we race as a family. Decent warmup for WT.
