Orienteering race 54:48 [5] 5.8 km (9:27 / km)

Routegadget here: http://www.ptoc.org/gadget/cgi-bin/reitti.cgi?act=...

Not as good as the first day, mostly due to my big mistake on 2-3. Lost as much time on that split than as on all my mistakes from the first day put together. I tried to get fancy with my route when I just wasn't necessary. The straight line route is totally fine and hard to mess up since the contours are so helpful. But for some reason i decided I needed to cut up to the ridge, then I wasn't paying attention to the contours very closely and got disoriented and wasted a lot of time stopping and wandering around. Not a very typical mistake for me.

It's even more frustrating since the entire rest of the course went so well. I lost a minute on 5, 90 seconds on 12, but the rest of the run was pretty much spot on. With just that one control I could've dropped 5 minutes and been in the top 5 for the weekend. I'm happy with how I raced overall, but it's frustrating to think how close I was to my goal (top 5).

Orienteering race 49:27 [5] 5.8 km (8:32 / km)

Routegadget here, I'm green x 1: http://www.ptoc.org/gadget/cgi-bin/reitti.cgi?act=...

Ended up in 6th despite making quite a few small mistakes. I'd say the worst ones were :

1-2: hesitating on the route choice and not going straight through the forest to the road.

3-4: Wandering around on the spur for too long.

4-5: Going around on the slow slippery trail instead of going straight across the river.

9-10: Taking a bad initial bearing and hitting the trail much farther north than I wanted.

Definitely satisfied with the 6th place finish. the orienteering was not my best but it was a hard course and I didn't make any big mistakes which is good.

Orienteering 2:30:00 [3]

orienteering training at kill creek park with the team. the two exercises were a memory o' and a compass exercise. I did well on the memory o' but pretty poorly on the compass one. luckily, there are rarely real orienteering situations where you rely solely on an accurate compass bearing across 400m. thanks to erin for doing a great job organizing the junior training for everyone.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

Walked the model with the team. Lots of snow for march!
