Orienteering - Urban race (Dorking urban) 56:48 [4] 9.95 km (5:43 / km) +110m 5:25 / km
slept:5.0 (injured) shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 10 g

Dorking urban. 7.5km mens open race.

Not feeling good going into this and the heat wasn't going to help. Slow getting into the map so slow into 1. Improved from there and was doing a good job planning ahead so did 12 quite cleanly. After 13 got stuck waiting for a gap in traffic for at least 30s and then was completely exhausted once I'd got to 14 - even walking was a struggle.

Plodded on, no mistakes and just about made it to the finish before collapsing.

Saw an oldish woman cross the wall by 1 and quite a few people ran across the OOB tarmacced playground by finish but at least I didn't cheat.

Emitag was good.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.3 km (7:42 / km)
(injured) shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 10 g

Slow jog to the start. Would have gone even slower if I knew the starts were running 10 mins late!

Orienteering race (British relays) 41:58 [4] 5.62 km (7:28 / km) +145m 6:37 / km
slept:5.0 (injured) shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Yellow1

British relays at Holmbury. 4.8km men's short leg 2.

Pat came back some way behind the main pack so started out on my own a bit. Went straight through the undergrowth to 3 and caught a few at 4.

Then messed up 5 as couldn't match the vegetation at all. Then not good to 6 as unsure where on the path I needed to cut. Relocated from path below.

Went up cycle track on west to 7 then straight to 8. Should have gone round paths. Another mess on 9. Found gullies but my control, despite description, was a reentrant. Maybe lost 45 s.

Remainder ok but too high into 12. Impressive skid taking turn too fast to 13 and amazed ankle wasn't even jarred.

Very scrappy run and terrain very rough around 7-9 but enjoyed this more than yesterday. Didn't see Pete at all on course but seems I recovered almost all of his 13 minute lead. Pleased to see NGOC beat BOK in the end!

Running 6:00 [3] 1.0 km (6:00 / km)
slept:6.0 (injured) shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Yellow1

Fast jog to start as running late

Orienteering race (British Champs) 1:19:54 [3] 10.6 km (7:32 / km) +310m 6:35 / km
(injured) shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Yellow1

British champs at Winterfold. 8.4km 21 short course.

Didn't get in to this at all well. The hurried rush to the start meant I was in wrong frame of mind and then finding faults with the map on way to first control got me concerned.

Really struggled getting through the wind blown stuff and ankle really complained right up until I lost feeling in it at around 4. Best route always seemed to be long path rather than straight.

On long leg to 7 tried cutting corners so lost loads of time on what I would have managed going to the bottom of the map and around the paths. Overtaken by Mark but without me to follow he made a huge mess within the circle at 7.

Could feel my foot again after 11. Didn't see best route to 12 and took one that required a lot of thinking. 14 to 15 should have gone straight rather than round.

No real mistakes but terrain too unpleasant for me to be able to run so didn't enjoy this at all. This was my first British champs and had expected there to be some sort of atmosphere. Thought the Briyish was supposed to be something special?

Orienteering - Urban race (Coombe Dingle Urban) 42:41 [3] 8.05 km (5:18 / km) +30m 5:12 / km
slept:6.0 (injured) shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 10 g

Urban race from Coombe Dingle. 5.8km long course.

Still didn't feel like there was any pace in my legs so very slow through first controls around the pitches. Then slow through the hard to read bit.

Took west road route 10-11 as didn't want to jump the stream. Then tired out by now so took it easy for the rest of the course.

Went back on myself 13-14, then up the steps and along the road - the people behind saw me and followed. Along the main road 15-16 rather than down the steps.

Fairly steady for the remainder.

Lovely day to be outside and some good legs to make you think. The amount of running I've done this last week has come as a bit of a shock to my body so rest until Saturday would be good.

Ended the day with a 15 minute shift on download. Think I should be charging contractor rates for this now?
