Orienteering race (BOK Silkwood) 47:24 [5] 7.72 km (6:08 / km) +70m 5:52 / km
shoes: Addidas Swoops

Blue course 6.6km with 70m climb

Unseasonally good weather matched up with unusually good navigation.

Pleased to get 1 ok as couldn't find it when planning the WNL. Overshot 2 as distracted by seeing the control in the pit on the left. Fine to 4 and 5.

Getting to 6 made much better by the felling and clearing. Very happy to get 7 bang on after the previous two attempts at finding the hole.

9 is a new mapped feature. Lost loads of time in the brambles getting to/from it. 10 ok. 11 got fine via the path to the W. Used feedback from the WNL to take the path route around the top into 12. Shame I was just so slow.

The block in by 14 was wonderful. Did 15 cleanly for once. Then was a mad dash to the finish (with a small loss on 18 looking for the right tree). Was apparently caning it up the hill to 21 and since I took the same time as Tim, maybe that was correct. Navigate to finish was correctly described and the run in probably even met the BOF Level C event guidelines - definitely an improvement on yesterday.

Had Laura behind me from control 3 until the finish so it gave some incentive to keep up the pace despite my legs being very tired from Malvern.

Glad I came here instead of going up to Midland Champs. I suppose any nav errors I make here would be unforgiveable.

Note
(injured)

Knee is feeling injured.

Think it is linked to the thinking I'd done too much tarmac/hard ground at control 18/19 yesterday, coupled with going up the hills post run and then running today.

Hope it isn't a problem but currently walking with a bit of a limp.

Orienteering - Urban race (Malvern Urban) 1:12:34 [5] 12.0 km (6:03 / km) +235m 5:30 / km
shoes: Addidas Swoops

Malvern urban 7.3km with apparently just 150m climb.

Scrappy race - had map oriented wrong out of 2 so went the wrong way. Almost ran along the main road to 5. Very very slow up to St Ann's Well. Happy with my route choice 11-12. Got confused as to where I was heading to 13 so not such a good route. Route taken to 14 probably the best but not executed well.

Legs and feet starting to hurt a lot from the road running at 18 but kept going as had Tom Butt just ahead of me. Hated leg 23-24 as very long way round (decided it was better than through the cemetary) and uphill - fell into a walk for a lot of this.

Remainder of the course fairly good, with a bit of straight lining through the light green, up until I got lost on the "taped route" to the finish and then mistook the dark green circular flowerbed (which given it had nothing in it surely should have been mapped as olive green) for the bandstand which I assumed was mapped as a building. Lost about 90s and was pretty much at the finish but couldn't find it for all the people crowding around it.

Quite disappointed with the run today.

Running - off road (BOK Training Run) 1:07:03 [3] 10.22 km (6:34 / km) +150m 6:07 / km
shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 9

BOK Training Run from the Barn in Nailsea.

Phil got us a bit lost in Nailsea and then Ifor tried to make us just wide ditch full of slime. After that much better. Kept a slow and steady pace on the uphill and tried to go down the other hill quicker than I normally would. Hopefully good o-training.
