orienteering 49:06 [3] 3.2 km (15:21 / km) +65m 13:56 / km
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

First A-Meet (almost ever) without a major screw-up. I was so worried about my crappy distance vision issues that I was very conservative and took lots of bearings, mostly walked and pace-counted. I finished 3rd (far back from 1st & 2nd) in a strong field of 17. However there are (I think) 3 or 4 others within 3 minutes of me. Had a nice time on a beautiful day. Tomorrow's supposed to be considerably harder. Stay tuned.

Wondered what a 5km would look/feel like. Pretty slow. Went out fast and got slower. Nice day. Looking at one of those magic age/distance converters (here's one: http://www.runbayou.com/Wavacalc.htm), and assuming I could run a 29min. 5 km with racing shoes and some competition - that would be at 63.93% of something or other; and that SOMEONE 74 YEARS OLD could run that distance in 18:32. Holy Cow.

O today on the new(ish) Brandywine map, which now is significantly greener. I had a very nice run through the first five of nine controls (16:51 at that point), then I let vegetation get in my head. My energy level was not what I'd hoped, either. (Of course, I hope for a LOT.) I really did enjoy the day, though, especially the first 5 controls - and I hope next weekend will be more like that. It was great to see Hugh4 and the girls on yellow, and afterward on the jungle gym, swing set and sliding boards.
